Too often when we travel we're completely overwhelmed; everything is fascinating, beautiful, and photogenic. As photographers our knee-jerk reaction is to photograph all of it—we're visual creatures, after all—but too often we come home with some okay pictures of how it looked, but lacking depth. Travel Photographer Kate Siobhan Mulligan will share some of her best tactics for making creative decisions on the fly, turning potential snapshots into purposeful images. She shares mistakes, missed moments, and what she wish she'd known 10 years ago when she began her journey into travel photography. Kate is an energetic and engaging speaker, so join us for this 1.5 hour immersion into creative travel photography—and stay for the chance to meet and talk with Kate afterwards.

2:30pm Lecture: Finding Passion through Self-Portraiture with Lizzy Gadd

Canadian photographer Lizzy Gadd has been working through a 12-year process of finding connections with nature and empowerment through vulnerability, both in front of the camera and operating the camera. Lizzy will share her journey into photography with a combination of landscapes with self-portraiture, behind the scenes stories of the challenges faced on these shoots and the process that has brought her to the forefront of self-portraiture.

Join Sony's camera team and Toronto Celebrity Radio Morning Show Host and photography enthusiast Mocha Frap for this bus tour of his favourite photography spots in Toronto.

The bus will be loading up at Henry's Camera on Church Street at 11am and then heading out on a fun adventure of the city. Be sure and bring your Sony camera, lenses and extra SD cards so you can capture all the fun. Mocha will be taking us to his top spots for photography where we'll get out and take photos, then back on the bus to the next stop.

Around 1pm, we'll be back at the store for a quick bite and drink and then Mocha will be showing his favourite images to the group. This is going to be a fun day of photography and shooting. A team from Sony will be on hand to answer any questions you have and loaning a lens or two you may want to try out.

Bio: Toronto Celebrity Radio Personality Mocha has over 20 years experience as a broadcaster across Canada and just celebrated his 10th year as one half of the #1 Hit Music Morning Show in Canada's largest city — Toronto, Ontario. Again, due to such a popular demand, we're doing another one!

Hosted by Emilie Pelka, this free seminar will take place starting at Newmarket Splash Pad and we will be walking to nearby areas to get different types of shots.

We would love for you to bring your camera and any lenses you may want to bring (longer focal lengths and wider apertures are best, but bring what you've got)!

We'll be doing on-the-spot teaching, shooting and photo review to make sure you get the most of out your evening with us. We'll also be attempting to bring a model or two to practice on, but Emilie will gladly volunteer to be in front of the camera again; she had so much fun the first time!

This extensive hands-on learning and shooting experience is designed to take your studio photography to new creative heights. During this six-hour event, you will learn core lighting principles and work with professional and prosumer studio lighting gear. This is a skills-transfer workshop with plenty of hands-on. You will learn everything needed to set up and use studio lighting for yourself. You will learn all about an array of light modifying tools that you can use to shape and control the light to suit your creative vision.

We'll also provide an extensive set of student notes, including buying advice and tips PLUS lighting diagrams.

You'll use your camera to photograph professional models in multiple genres such as portraiture, beauty, and athletic. During this event, you will make images that you'll be proud to have in your photography portfolio. Whether you're completely new to studio photography or have a bit of experience, this workshop is for you.

The majority of the workshop takes place in studio. Weather permitting, we will be taking some lighting gear outdoors to show you how to effectively take full control of your outdoor light by mixing studio flash (battery powered) with ambient daylight. We will discuss "overpowering the sun", high-speed sync, and do a little bit of natural light shooting as well.

All you need to bring is your DSLR or mirrorless camera, lenses, and a desire to learn and take amazing photographs in a studio setting (and outdoors for this special edition of the event). Space is strictly limited to 8 attendees.

This workshop is conducted by James Ogilvie, a professional educator, photographer and photography course creator for Henry’s prior to 2018.
