Henry's Events & In-store Seminars

Throughout the year, Henry's store locations play host to a variety of in-store seminars. These seminars are presented by members of the Henry's community and sales staff, and cover a wide range of topics such as how to use a video or still camera, using a flash, lighting techniques, lenses and general maintenance of your equipment. Profoto Shaping Light - What's New Workshop

Pet Photography with Ross Chevalier

This in-depth session will teach you how to get great expressions and to make images of your dog in different settings. We will look at how to shoot indoors, in a studio setup, and outdoor at the park or in other locations. Whether your dog is nervous or the perfect posing pup, we will examine techniques to work with them all.

Sony Day

11:00 am – Noon — Morning Lecture:
The Most Creative Portraits Express as Much About You as Your Subject

Great portraits are often as much about how you see the world as they are wonderful expressions of your subject. So, jump into a whole new way of making images by using creative tools found on the new Sony Mirrorless cameras as well as using point of view, perspective, lens choice and simple lighting ideas to go from taking pictures to making images.

You will learn fun and easy techniques from Peter Stranks, a photographer pulling from thirty years of shooting experience for magazines like Canadian Living and Today's Parent, ad clients like Royal Bank and LCBO and films such as Cheaper by the Dozen 2, One Week, and Everyday. Also Sony technical staff will also be on hand to help you get the most out of your mirrorless camera and which lens might be useful in your style of photography.

Henry's will have an in-store studio set-up in the morning and then the group will board a Sightseeing Double Decker bus to hit some Toronto highlights between 12:30pm and 2:30pm.

12:30 pm – 2:30pm — City Sightseeing Double Decker Bus Trip to Photo Locations
Join City Sightseeing tour buses for a two hour private tour of some of Toronto's best photo locations. The bus will be leaving from Henry's at 12.30 and stopping at Yonge Dundas Square, Kensington Market and Graffiti Alley to give you a chance to try out the latest Sony gear or a new lens on your Sony mirrorless. Guest speaker Peter Stranks will be part of the tour, along with our group of models and Sony technical staff.

3:00 pm - 4:00pm — Afternoon Lecture
Join Professional Photographer Peter Stranks for a repeat of the morning lecture about using your Sony mirrorless camera for great portraits and people pictures. There will be models to shoot and the Sony technical staff will be on hand to help with any questions regarding your Sony system.

In the Store Throughout the Day
Sony staff will be in-store to answer questions regarding Sony systems. Refreshments will be available for participants. There will also be promo pricing on Sony gear, plus handouts.


Complete Lighting and Shooting Workshop

Date: Sunday, September 30th, 2018
Location: Studio 311 - 9 Davies Ave., Toronto (Queen E. & DVP)
Cost: $249 - Registration Required

This extensive hands-on learning and shooting experience is designed to take your studio photography to new creative heights. You will learn core lighting principles and work in a professional photo studio, complete with all of the relevant gear for controlling your light. You only need to bring your camera, and a desire to create the most amazing images of people - ever.

Experienced industry models will be on hand to help you craft images that you will be proud of for your own portfolio. We will cover several different lighting styles for portraiture, beauty, fashion and more. These principles will help you create virtually any look or mood you desire, for photographing women or men.

This workshop is aimed primarily at photographers with no experience with studio strobe lighting and have a strong desire to learn. To help your learning a comprehensive student guide is provided including guidance on gear that you will use. You will be amazed at what you can accomplish. This workshop is conducted by James Ogilvie, creator of several Henry's Learning Lab classes in addition to teaching in Henry's flagship Toronto location.
