  • High-performance Star (*) Series Lens:
  • This high-performance Star (*) series lens assures exceptional image rendition with edge-to-edge sharpness by effectively compensating various aberrations to a minimum
  • When mounted on a PENTAX K-mount SLR camera body, it provides a zoom ratio of approximately 2.9 times to cover a telephoto range from 107mm to 307mm in the 35mm format
  • Fast, F2.8 Lens:
  • Large maximum aperture of F2.8 over the entire zoom range, makes it ideal for portraiture with beautifully defocused foreground/background and sports photography where high shutter speeds to freeze the action are required
  • HD and Aero Bright Coating II:
  • Aero Bright Coating II - a lens-coating nanotechnology that employs a super-low refractive film fabrication process to assure light reflectance lower than that of the conventional Aero Bright Coating* (* A state-of-the-art, PENTAX-original lens coating technology developed from nanotechnology. It applies a silica aerogel coating layer with uniform porous structure over a regular multi-coating layer to reduce surface reflections across a wide wavelength range and produce crisp, high-quality images.)
  • By coupling this advanced lens coating with the high-grade, multi-layer HD Coating** that reduces reflectance in the visible light spectrum to less than 50 percent of that of conventional multi-layer coatings, this lens allows the user to capture crisp, high-contrast images free of flare and ghosting, even under demanding lighting conditions. (** HD stands for High Definition.)
  • All Weather Construction:
  • This lens features dependable, all-weather construction with 13 special seals to effectively prevent intrusion of water and dust into the lens interior
  • When used with a PENTAX weather-resistant digital SLR camera body, it assures a durable, reliable digital imaging system that performs superbly in demanding shooting settings - even in rain or mist, or at locations prone to water splashes or spray
  • Quick-Shift Focus System:
  • Quick-Shift Focus System allows instant switching from autofocus to manual focus operation
  • Operability has been improved thanks to a three-position switch installed on this lens, allowing instant switching among QFS/A, QFS/M and MF modes
  • With a choice of three distinctive modes, the user is assured of speedier, more accurate focusing operation for a given subject or application
  • Focus Range Limiter:
  • Focus Range Limiter minimizes AF operation time by allowing the user to fix the focus range to one of three sub-ranges - Full, close range (1.2 to 4m) or far range (4m to infinity)
  • SP (Super Protect) Coating:
  • SP (Super Protect) coating repels dust, water and grease to keep your lens clean and your image quality at its peak

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing shots It is heavy, but with the f2.8, can shoot a high speeds eliminating shaking. Normally shoot at 3.5 to capture depth. Have had nothing but praise about my photos on this lens. Pentax is in my blood, love their product Worth the money

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a tank with the performance of a GT. I purchased this from my local Henry's specifically for indoor sports photography (volleyball) and it has exceeded my expectations. The lens is a solid chunk but it isn't unmanageable for normal use. It is sharp edge to edge and the colour rendition is excellent. The zoom is totally internal so that makes the package tough as nails since you don't take anything into a gym that can't take an impact and it has. Zero issues. The range is perfect in a gym if you are in the stands or down by the action. The speed has allowed me to drop several ISO ranges in the same gyms and thus I have seen much better image quality over my previous lenses (Pentax, Sigma, Tamron). It doesn't quite match a vintage Takumar prime but it is very very close. If you are a serious sports photographer and a Pentax shooter, this is a massively good investment as a first "pro" zoom. It won't be going anywhere from my bag and frankly often it is the only lens I take with me. (And the girls get a laugh as team picture time means I am about 40' away so they have to shoo the rest of the parents out to get the "good picture"!)
