  • Compact, Lightweight Lens
  • Optical SteadyShot
  • Direct Manual Focus
  • Filter Diameter: 49 mm
  • Compact, easy to carry design makes this the perfect second lens for when you're out and about, on location or on the road
  • High performance and a compact design make the SEL-35F18 prime lens an ideal second lens that's easy to carry around while capturing the action
  • It's perfect for a wide variety of photos, including snapshots while strolling, night shots (thanks to the bright maximum aperture) and portraits with beautifully defocused backgrounds
  • Optics reduce spherical aberration and coma for sharp images even when shooting wide open
  • Combined with built-in Optical SteadyShot image stabilization, your photos and videos will be crisp, clear and blur-free
  • Compact, lightweight fixed F1.8 lens:
  • This compact, large-aperture, fixed focal length lens has a focal length of 52.5 mm (35 mm equivalency) and is approximately 1-3/4" (45mm) long
  • Compact and easy to carry around, this bright lens makes an ideal "second lens" with the capability to handle a wide variety of shooting situations - from landscapes and snaps around town to lovely portraits with beautiful background blur
  • Silent and smooth focusing for shooting movies:
  • The quiet, high-speed linear motor in SEL-35F18 controls focus while an in-lens stepping motor in the actuator controls the aperture
  • Together they provide extremely quiet operation and smooth focusing as well as quiet and fluid aperture control
  • These motors are ideal for shooting video since they eliminate the worry of excessive lens-drive noise
  • Optical design:
  • Optics reduce spherical aberration and coma, delivering performance similar to Sonnar T* E 24mm f/1.8 ZA and E 50mm f/1.8 OSS in the central area of the lens, and equal or better contrast at the periphery
  • The results are clean, sharp images even when shooting wide open
  • Superb focusing operation:
  • The SEL-35F18 supports DMF (Direct Manual Focus), which enables users to resume manual focusing directly after obtaining focus with AF
  • This is particularly useful when AF cannot lock onto a subject or continually focuses on an unintended one
  • It also facilitates fine focusing when shooting portraits with a shallow depth of field
  • Built-in Optical SteadyShot image stabilization:
  • The built-in Optical SteadyShot image stabilization system provides a 4-stop (approx.) shutter speed advantage, making it significantly easier to achieve crisp, blur-free images and video
  • Circular Aperture:
  • In low-light shots or nightscapes, out-of-focus light sources have a pleasing circular defocused effect.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good lens, but could be better This is a good lens, but I think it is overpriced. I bought this lens and it is a good quality lens good for video and photos. I find it better for video than photos because this lens can be a bit soft (might just be my copy don’t have another lens to compare it to). If I were to rate the sharpness out of 10 I’d give it a 7-7.5 depending on the circumstances. It is a good focal length for walking around, especially for street photography. It is a fast lens that creates creamy bokeh and has quick AF. The lens is a little bigger than the kit lens so it is compact and does not take up much room. Good size I would say. It is overpriced in my opinion, but for the money you are getting a compact small lens, good focal length, fast aperture for good bokeh, and OSS.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great starter lens As someone who is new at photography, this lens provides a great experience as a first lens. Its better than the starter kit one and worth the money if you want something better than the default.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best native prime Pros: Small & light Easy to use focal length Excellent image quality Great in low light No distortion Fast focusing & start-up Cons: May hunt for focus if the area is too dim (low contrast), but that's probably the camera's fault (A6000)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Crisp and clear lens! Bought this to take pictures at my niece quince few months ago. Got really great pics of the event and was a great complement to my a6000!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This lens is GLUED on to my a6000 Awesome lens and a huge upgrade from the standard 16-50mm kit lens that comes with the a6000. Being a prime you can't zoom in but the amount of light this thing is able to get fr that wide f1.8 aperture is insane! Again, comparing this to the kit lens, it's like night and day. Kit at 35mm is f5.6 vs f1.8. That alone is a huge difference. Very sharp as well, great color rendition and looks and feels great - doesn't matter parts of it are plastic, it's good quality. Also with the optical steady shot (OSS), this thing is the real deal. It is pretty pricey, specially comparing it to the 50mm f1.8 prime (which is just as amazing) but as I understand it, the 35mm is more complex with more glass elements which is harder to make etc. I think it's worth the money. I thought about off brands which are half the price, but you lose the OSS and it's not as fast and bright. So overall great lens, go buy one for your a6000 or any NEX camera and see the difference/improvements! If you have any questions for me just comment on my review and I'll try to get back to you. ps attached is a sample pic that were taken with my a6000, shot in FINE jpeg mode and was not post processed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a worthy lens Now that I have a zoom kit lens, zoom telephoto and wide angle, I started to consider prime lenses. I tried this one (and the 50mm Sony lens). The f1.8 is useful. And the limit to one focal length is helpful in that it forces me to frame shot. The quality is excellent. And yes, I am aware of off brand 30mm lenses for half the price. Still, I am enjoying this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great lens, but questionably spendy I bought this lens based on the reviews, and it is no doubt one of the best lenses I've ever owned. Very sharp and has an almost ideal focal length for the NEX. The autofocus is a little slow in lower light, and I'm more dependent on continuous AF than other lenses. While the lens is generally amazing, I think it is only marginally better than other lenses that cost much less, including the Sigma 30 (though it doesn't have OSS). In my opinion, it is not as good as the SEL 50 1.8, which costs less as well. Granted, the 35mm focal length has a different "look", but you have to question the price difference compared to the 50. In all, it is the essential prime for the NEX (IMO) and it stays attached to my NEX 6 almost all of the time, which says something.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clear , Crisp and alright! Got this lens last April 2013 and so impressed with the quality of the pictures I had taken. Lens was so quick to focus and shots were so crisp. Low -light shots for indoors is now less of a problem.
