  • Medium Telephoto FX-format Lens
  • Silent Wave Motor
  • Super Integrated Coating
  • Filter Diameter: 67mm
  • Offers crisp and natural image reproduction for stills and HD video
  • Fast aperture, medium telephoto portrait lens for exceptional stills and HD video:
  • Designed for use on Nikon's FX-format D-SLR cameras, this updated medium telephoto f/1.8 lens is great for shooting stills or HD videos
  • The AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.8G features Nikon's Internal Focus (IF) system providing fast and quiet AF and produces sharp and clear images at all apertures
  • Its fast maximum aperture is ideal for taking stills or HD videos under ideal lighting, in low light, head and shoulder portraiture, weddings or concerts
  • When mounted on a DX-format D-SLR, the AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.8G has an effective field of view of 127mm
  • Flattering portraits in any light - Get astonishing low light results:
  • This medium telephoto portrait lens is great for use in the studio, on set or for shooting in available light; producing stills or HD video of people with attractive skin tones and beautiful background blur
  • With its fast f/1.8 aperture, the AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.8G will capture even low-light situations with stunning brilliance
  • Beautiful background blur - Achieve more natural depth of field:
  • When you need to isolate the subject from the background, as when shooting portraits - indoors or outdoors - stills or HD video, the AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.8G renders a beautiful, natural background blur (Bokeh) at its wider aperture settings
  • The beauty is in the details - Designed for digital with superior performance:
  • Nikon's Super Integrated Coating (SIC) enhances light transmission efficiency and offers superior colour consistency and reduced flare
  • Nikon's Silent Wave Motor (SWM) assures fast, accurate and quiet autofocus as well as full compatibility including autofocus with Nikon's complete line up of FX- and DX-format cameras
  • Internal Focusing (IF):
  • Imagine being able to focus a lens without it changing in size
  • Nikon's IF technology enables just that
  • All internal optical movement is limited to the interior of the nonextending lens barrel
  • This allows for a more compact, lightweight construction as well as a closer focusing distance
  • Silent Wave Motor (SWM):
  • Nikon's AF-S technology is yet another reason professional photographers like NIKKOR telephoto lenses
  • AF-S NIKKOR lenses feature Nikon's SWM which converts "traveling waves" into rotational energy to focus the optics
  • This enables high-speed autofocusing that's extremely accurate and super quiet
  • M/A mode (M/A):
  • AF-S NIKKOR lenses feature Nikon's exclusive M/A mode, that allows switching from autofocus to manual operation with virtually no time lag?even during AF servo operation and regardless of AF mode in use
  • Nikon Super Integrated Coating (SIC):
  • To enhance the performance of its optical lens elements, Nikon employs an exclusive multilayer lens coating that helps reduce ghost and flare to a negligible level
  • Nikon Super Integrated Coating achieves a number of objectives, including minimized reflection in the wider wavelength range and superior colour balance and reproduction

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sweet lens "Most of my gear is fast pro quality, and so when deciding on this or the 1.4 version, I was undecided. The salesmen kept telling me that it is as sharp as the 1.4, but what impressed me was when I was prepared to pay for the 1.4 he still said that this lens was just as sharp. So I bought this instead, and I can say that I can't imagine a sharper photo. I'm glad that I can get this quality. The bokeh at 1.8 is brilliant, and although the only downside is losing the ability to shoot at 1.4, even on my other 1.4 lenses the DoF is so small, I rarely if ever shoot at 1.4. This is a great portrait lens, and the results are stunning. I recommend it."

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Is there a six star option? "I bought this lens a while back on a whim knowing that I should probably kit myself out with an 85mm at some point. The price was right and all of the reviews made it pretty clear that this was one of the best lenses in its class. Well, after 4ish months and many photo shoots later, I have to say that this is likely the best lens in my bag. The colour, contrast and sharpness of this little lens are second to none. It's light, it's inexpensive, it's really simple, but it's heads above anything else that I use for portraits. I give it six stars."

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 85mm 1.8G vs 85 mm1.4G "Sharp all the way through to the edges, GREAT bokeh! Very good build quality and near silent focusing. It performs nearly on par with 85 1.4G...for a quarter of the price! Price for performance this is a no brainer portrait lens. Just get one."

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing glass!! "I'm shooting on a D7000 so there is that 1.5 multiplier. Therefore I end up with essentially a 127mm lens, which is incredible for a DX prime lens. (there is consistent perspective that the multiplier also applies to the f1.8, which would turn it into an f2.7 lens, which is fine by me). The bokeh compares incredibly favourable to my favourite lens of all time (and you can still buy them new for around 2 grand) which is Nikon's 135mm f2.0DC). It's creamy and glorious! I think this is the perfect focal length for portraiture IMO, and there's no way I'd want to touch the 1.4 lens at 4 times the price, it's just so not necessary. This one is absolutely a no-brainer if you're looking for that perfect prime portrait lens."

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Probably my favourite lense in my bag. "I bought this a couple months ago because I thought it was about time to get a telephoto lense. After reading numerous of other reviews, I planned to buy it eventually. I was going to buy a different lense before shooting a show, but it wasn't in stock. So I somewhat impulsively bought this one. Pair this one up with a 35mm, 50mm, and your good to go! I find myself using this to shoot photos of drummers mostly when I shoot concerts, and the results are stunning."

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent! "I got it about a month ago to use with my D810 and I thought it'd magnify things better, so I returned it. Now it's Black Friday, November 27th and I'm getting ready to board a plane to Russia, so I took advantage of the special Black Friday pricing and ... bought it again. My other lens is a Nikkor 20 mm F/1.8 and together with this 85 mm F/1.8 I hope I can bring home some great pictures from the trip. This lens is light, affordable and very sharp!"

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Go-to Portrait Lens There is a reason this gets five stars over and over again. Take one shot with this lens and you too will see why everyone rates it so highly. From the super sharp and narrow DOF to the creamy buttery Bokeh
