Rated 5 out of 5 by from "Be careful, it IS that sharp !" "If you want an excellent sharp lens for your camera, zoom at that focal length, look no further. I've purchased this lens in November 2010 as I needed the constant aperture, after much debate and looking around, I decided to purchase the Tamron 17-50mm XR DI-II f2.8 none VC, and I have NOT regret my purchase. The f/2.8 aperture provide me with the DOF that I'm looking for, and the low light capability that I was looking for. Have I mentioned that it was sharp ? It is extremelly sharp, don't worry about not having VC (image stabilization), not much required at that focal length, my own opinion. One more thing, the useful hood is included, and you get 6 years warranty from Tamron !"

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome lens. "After purchasing 2 of the Canon L-series lenses (the 100-400 and 70-200 f2.8), I was a little skeptical about straying from the L series for the shorter focal length. After reading some good reviews about this lens, I ordered it and hoped the reviews were true. I tested it for the first time doing some scenic waterfall shots..... I was not disappointed! It's fast, it's sharp, great in low light and I've been very very happy with the results. In no way do I regret the purchase, and you certainly can't turn your nose up at the price."

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Great Lens for the Price This lens is a great 2.8 lens for the price. It preforms well...my only caution is that is does not have silent focusing. If you can live with that you can't go wrong!
