  • For lenses with 72mm filter mounts.
  • In conditions of extreme light intensity, such as sunshine on snowy mountains or on the beach, or when using a camcorder, ND (Neutral Density) filters are recommended as essential.
  • ND filters appear grey and reduce the amount of light reaching the film, they have no affect on color balance.
  • They have four main uses:
  • 1.To enable slow shutter speeds to be used, especially with fast films, to record movement in subjects such as waterfalls, clouds, cars, seas etc.
  • 2.To decrease depth of field by allowing wider apertures to be used, which helps separate subjects from their background.
  • 3.To decrease the effective ISO of high speed film (ie: above ISO400) and allow it to be used outdoors in blight situations.
  • 4.To allow cine and video cameras (which have fixed shutter speeds) to film subjects such as snow, sand or other bright scenes which would normally cause over-exposure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's Everything You Could Want "I ordered mine the week of announcement and it arrived the following June. Having owned a 5D Mk II, and still owning a 7D and a 1D Mk IV, I had high expectations for the 1Dx. I have not been disappointed. Yes it's expensive. But full tilt firing, tough construction and unbelievable high ISO performance makes this monster perfect for me. It is big. It is heavy. It's AF system is so sophisticated you need to spend a lot of time learning how to truly leverage it. For sports and wildlife, it kills. Yes you could buy a pair of 5D Mk IIIs for the same coin. But they would not add up to the 1Dx. I heard a guy complaining about the 18MP sensor the other day saying the megapixel count was too low. It's not the size, it's what you can do with it. The 1Dx is a complete rock star."
