Rated 4 out of 5 by from "Great lens, Amazing price!" "Bought this lens when I upgraded from DX to FX to try out on my new FX camera. It was also the first prime lens I have owned. This is probably one of the cheapest lenses you can buy yet it is fast, super sharp and light. Auto-focus works well on any camera body that has a built in focusing motor so check to make sure your camera has a built in focus motor before you buy, otherwise you would have to manual focus. I have used this lens for regular snapshots when I don't need a zoom, for panoramic shots using a specialized panoramic tripod head, and for macro shots when combined with extension tubes. The detail and sharpness blew me away when I used this lens for panoramic shots (stitching from 5 to 10 shots together to create a wide image). The only reason I am giving it 4 out of 5 stars is because I think it should have come with a lens hood, rather than having to purchase it separately. Overall an excellent lens. Can't go wrong on price and IQ - a great deal!"

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favourite lens! The best lens for the money you'll ever buy. I bought this lens a year ago and it's stayed on my camera for 80% of that time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice cute little lens. It may be a bit old but it's a great price. AF works on certain cameras so research that before you buy. And some people say AF is noisy but it isn't really that bad. Plus it is a good lens if you want to reverse the lens for macro work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great lens! "This is a wonderful lens. On a DX camera, it serves as a perfect portrait lens. It doesn't have a built in focusing motor so if you need autofocus you will need a camera body with a focusing motor built in. This lens is light & very sharp. A must have lens!"

Rated 5 out of 5 by from "Dont let the Price or Weight Fool you, this lens holds its own!" "I purchased this Portrait lens from your Church St location in Toronto, Ont as a birthday gift to myself. Upon opening the box, the lens sure doesnt feel like much (with its compact size and plastic housing, it is extremely lightweight compared to a stock 18-55 lens) But I am extremely impressed by the speed of the lens and the image quality. The lens does autofocus with my D90 thanks to the focusing motor located inside the camera. Super crisp images and the portraits turn out amazing! This lens is probably the best bag for the buck over other more expensive portrait lenses!"

Rated 4 out of 5 by from "Great DX portrait lens, if a touch outdated" "The good: Optically excellent in all respects. Makes a nice close portrait lens on DX. Build quality is decent, although not up to the standards of Canon's L or Nikon's older manual versions. The bad: Focus gearing is a bit on the slow side for such a small lens (~4 turns for macro to infinity). Nikon Canada's MSRP might be a bit high for a simple, older, non-SWM design of this build quality."

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Lens for the Price "Bought this lens a month or so after I bought my D90. With the autofocus motor that is in the D90 is allowed me to buy the AF D lens and have autofocus, which would not be available with the D3100 or D5100. Great lens for portraits, and landscapes, haven't had time to travel much, waiting for the Autumn colours to get some nice shots."

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply Beautiful "This is a beautiful piece of glass. Its fast and versitiile and the price is amazing. As an older AF lens there is not VR or focus motors on it, so make sure its compatible with your camera unless you don't mind manually focusing."

Will this lense work to auto focus on a D3400? It says no specifically for others like D3300 but does not mention D3400.

Asked by: Wanda
