  • 24.2 MP Mirrorless Camera
  • APS-C Exmor CMOS Image Sensor
  • SEL 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS Lens
  • 5-axis Image Stabilization
  • 2.95 inch Touch Panel LCD
  • SONY ALPHA A6500 BODY BLACK
  • 24.2 MP Exmor CMOS image sensor:
  • The A6500 features an APS-C image sensor with approx. 24.2 effective megapixels plus thin wiring layer and large photodiode substrate for light collection efficiency. Combined with BIONZ X image processing engine, the image sensor achieves a wide sensitivity range of ISO 100-51200 with low noise. The sensor's quick-transmission copper wiring layer helps the camera to shoot movies in 4K and Full HD at 120fps (100fps).
  • 425 phase-detection AF points with High-density Tracking AF Technology:
  • With 425 focal plane phase-detection AF points helping to provide distinctively wide and dense AF point coverage, the A6500 focuses accurately, efficiently and reliably on subjects throughout the frame. Also, High-density Tracking AF Technology seamlessly activates AF points to cover and track subjects moving within frame with unerring precision.
  • Fast Hybrid AF for stills and movies:
  • The A6500 features the world's fastest15 (0.05 sec) AF speed. Such speed is achieved by integrating the Fast Hybrid AF's autofocusing performance plus the BIONZ X image processing engine's highly efficient, accurate handling of information. This makes for extraordinarily fast, accurate AF and tracking performance when shooting movies or stills. (1) Point of focus (2) Contrast-detection AF (3) Phase-detection AF
  • 11fps (Hi+) continuous shooting and 8fps (Hi) live-view continuous shooting:
  • Clearly capture moving subjects with high-speed continuous shooting at up to 11fps (Hi+). Or choose among three speeds up to 8fps (Hi), for live-view continuous shooting with very little lag on the EVF or LCD screen - it's practically as immediate as shooting with an optical viewfinder.
  • Huge buffer for up to 307 images (over 35 seconds) in continuous shooting:
  • Faster internal processing and a higher-capacity buffer memory now allow up to 307 images (over 36 seconds) of high-speed continuous shooting.
  • In-body 5-axis image stabilization:
  • The A6500 compensates for five types of camera shake, extending opportunities to shoot steadier still images and movies. The new high-accuracy gyro sensor provides an image stabilization effect equivalent to a 5-steps-faster shutter speed. The camera enables you to zoom in on faraway subjects, snap detailed close-ups, capture night scenes and more - all with minimal camera shake blur. (1) Yaw (2) Pitch (3) Roll
  • Intuitive Touch Focus even with your eye to the viewfinder:
  • Touch Focus makes focus point selection more intuitive - simply use a finger to touch the LCD touchscreen at the point of the image that you want to focus on. The Touch Pad function lets you shift the focus point smoothly by swiping a finger on the touchscreen, even while viewing the viewfinder.
  • 4K movie recording:
  • 4K movie recording in the Super 35 mm20 format with full pixel readout and no pixel binning allows approx. 2.4 times as much information as is basically required for 4K (QFHD: 3,840 x 2,160). Data this rich is, in fact, equivalent to 6K data, so it clearly conveys exceptionally high resolution in 4K images.
  • XGA OLED Tru-Finder:
  • The A6500 introduces a high-contrast, high-resolution, high-visibility XGA OLED Tru-Finder. It reproduces darkness and colour in very fine detail, for clear, smooth views of scenes and tracking of subjects. You can select either 120 (100fps) or 60fps (50fps) frame rate for use of this viewfinder.
  • Eye AF (AF-C compatible):
  • The A6500 features the Eye AF function that detects an eye and focuses on it with pinpoint accuracy even when shooting with a fast lens with aperture fully open and therefore with shallow depth of field. Eye AF also works in AF-C mode, so even if the subject moves, the wide coverage of the high-density 425-point focal plane phase-detection AF sensor maintains very accurate focus on the eyes.
  • Lock-on AF:
  • This function maintains focus on a moving subject automatically. Simply align the target frame and the subject to be tracked. If you lose track of the subject, the camera can detect that subject and resume the Lock-on AF function when the subject reappears on the screen.
  • High-durability shutter tested to approx. 200,000 release cycles with low vibration :
  • Enjoy less blur from vibration and a very quiet, durable shutter tested to about 200,000 shutter releases. Added braking mechanisms near the end of the rear shutter path plus elastic material as shock absorber produce these benefits. The reduced vibration also helps optimize image sensor resolution performance.
  • Further advanced image processing system:
  • The BIONZ X image processing engine is supported by newly developed front-end LSI. The image processing algorithm optimized for the image sensor enhances texture reproduction and image clarity while minimizing noise, particularly in the mid-to-high sensitivity range.
  • Slow and Quick Motion:
  • Up to 5x Slow Motion and up to 60x Quick Motion24 can be recorded at up to 50Mbps in high-quality Full HD in camera. You can choose among eight shooting frame rates ranging from 1 fps to 120 fps (100fps14), as well as 24p, 30p (25p), or 60p (50p) recording format. Slow Motion and Quick Motion footage can be played back after it is shot, without PC-based post-production processing.
  • Picture of α6500 Premium E-mount APS-C Camera
  • Focal plane phase-detection AF for A-mount lenses:
  • The A6500 offers focal plane phase-detection AF even when an A-mount lens is mounted using a mount adaptor (LA-EA3) from Sony. So you can take advantage of the autofocus system's uniquely wide coverage provided by 425 focal plane phase-detection AF points, as well as fast, fluid tracking performance when shooting with other lenses as well as E-mount lenses. (1) A-mount lenses
  • AF in Focus Magnifier:
  • You can use autofocus even while enlarging a selected image area on the viewfinder or LCD screen, for finer adjustment of focus, for example. This is excellent for macro shooting, when accurate focusing is crucial.
  • Gamma Display Assist and Zebra function:
  • With Gamma Display Assist, you can view images with natural contrast while recording in S-Log gamma setting, converting S-Log2 and S-Log3 into ITU709 (800%) gamma for monitoring images, or checking focus while enlarging an image on the LCD screen or viewfinder. Moreover, Zebra function simplifies exposure monitoring, especially when shooting in S-Log gamma setting. Target a video signal brightness level from 0-109%, set a range between +10% and -10% of that value, and zebra pattern indicates areas with that level of exposure within that range.
  • S-Gamut/S-Log shooting:
  • S-Gamut and S-Log shooting give you flexibility to perform colour grading in post-production. The S-Log3 and S-Log2 gamma curves feature wide dynamic range (up to 1300%) to minimize whiteout and blackout. The A6500 even offers impressive 14-stop latitude in S-Log3 gamma setting. The camera also supports S-Gamut, S-Gamut3, and S-Gamut3. Cine colour space from Sony.
  • NOTE: S-Log2 and S-Log3 are premised on processing pictures.
  • Terminals expand connectivity:
  • The camera supports line input from professional-standard audio devices with XLR terminal, with use of a separately sold XLR adaptor kit (XLR-K2M/XLR-K1M) that enables connection with various high-end microphones. This camera also supports clean HDMI output that allows uncompressed 4K and Full HD movies to be output to an external recorder or monitor.
  • Dust and moisture resistance:
  • Comprehensive dust and moisture resistance measures that help prevent water and dust from entering the body include sealing around the buttons and dials, as well as a protective double-layered structure that tightly interlocks panels and components.
  • Tough magnesium alloy body and robust lens mount:
  • With internal frames, rear cover, top cover and front cover constructed of magnesium alloy, A6500 is designed for solid reliability and steady handling, as its compact form readily withstands the rigours of shooting in the field. Also, the strength and rigidity of the lens mount provide an especially solid foundation for mounting and withstanding rugged use with even large, heavy lenses such as telephoto lenses.
  • Silent shooting:
  • Silent Shooting mode releases the shutter without a sound, even in continuous shooting up to approx. 3fps with AF/AE tracking, so it's very convenient for shooting indoor performances, outdoor wildlife, and in other situations where silence is essential. To turn this mode on/off more intuitively and less intrusively, assign it to a customizable button.
  • New menu interface:
  • The redesigned menu has a new categorization scheme. Now, the group name being selected can be found at the screen top, and each tab is coloured differently. This allows quick access to desired menu items, which enables you to change settings smoothly even during shooting.
  • File Name setting:
  • Each file name starts with "DSC" by default, but you can use the camera to change, register, and thereby customize the file name to include the first three characters of your choice. This facilitates management of files, especially when working on assignments with multiple cameras.
  • PlayMemories Camera Apps:
  • Express photographs more creatively with PlayMemories Camera Apps, the application download service that lets you add new functions to your camera's feature set. Choose among Time-lapse for recording images at intervals and combining them, Smart Remote Control for control of settings from a smartphone or tablet, Sky HDR (high-dynamic-range-imaging), Star Trail, Liveview Grading, Smooth Reflection and other apps. Note: Services availability depends on region.
  • Location Information Link:
  • After the camera has been paired via Bluetooth® to the PlayMemories Mobile30 app installed on a compatible mobile phone or tablet device, it can acquire and record location data from the mobile device. The acquired location data can also be used to correct the camera's date/time and location settings. The PlayMemories Home application can then be used on a personal computer to organize on a map any still images imported into the computer.
  • One-touch remote/One-touch sharing:
  • One-touch remote makes your smartphone or tablet a viewfinder/remote control. One-touch sharing transfers photos/videos to your device for SNS sharing. Just install a PlayMemories Mobile app via Wi-Fi to your NFC-enabled Android device, then touch the device to the camera to connect them. No NFC? No problem, as new QR code compatibility can also pair the devices.
  • Supported in Capture One Express (for Sony):
  • Capture One Express (for Sony) is one of the world's best RAW converters, rendering precise colours and incredible detail. It contains flexible digital asset management, all the essential adjustment tools and fast, responsive performance in one customizable and integrated solution. NOTE: Please direct all inquiries on purchase, usage and support on Capture One solutions to Phase One.)
  • Enhanced auto exposure functions:
  • Along with Multi, Centre, and Spot metering modes, the camera features new ones including Highlight, which automatically detects the brightest area in the frame and concentrates exposure metering on that area to avoid blown highlights; and Average, which determines average metering for the entire image in order to maintain stable AE tracking performance as shooting angles change as well as predictable AE behaviour. Also, when [Focus Area] parameter is set to [Flexible Spot] or [Expand Flexible Spot] the metering spot location can be linked to the focus area (selectable from Centre/Focus Point Link). Moreover, standard exposure value can be adjusted from -1 to +1 stop in 1/6-stop increments, and set separately for each metering mode.
  • Priority Set in AWB:
  • When white balance is set to Auto and incandescent lamps or similar illumination are the light sources, the colour tone priority can be set to [Standard], [Ambience], or [White]. [Ambience] produces a warm tone; [White] reproduces white tones faithfully.
  • Enhanced Remote Camera Control function:
  • When the camera is connected to a computer, you can use Remote Camera Control to take pictures or change camera settings from the computer. This computer-to-camera connection now makes it possible for you to store still images in camera as well as on the computer, so you can visually check images without leaving the camera position. It is now also possible to transfer only JPEG (rather than both JPEG and RAW) files to the computer, reducing the file data volume and allowing transferred images to be checked almost immediately.
  • Sony SEL 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS Lens:
  • 7.5x APS-C Zoom Lens
  • Fast, Precise, Quiet Focus
  • Close-ups with Background Bokeh
  • Filter Diameter: 55mm
  • Lightweight and compact design:
  • Compact (E-mount APS-C format) and lightweight (325 grams [11.5 oz]), this lens features an optical design optimized for short flange focal distances that makes it small and manageable on its own while also contributing to notable reductions in overall system size, weight and portability.
  • 7.5x high-magnification APS-C zoom lens:
  • A high zoom ratio provides a versatile 27 mm to 202.5 mm range (35 mm format equivalent, 7.5x optical zoom) that covers a broad spectrum of subjects and situations: scenery, nature, portraits, and general day-to-day photography.
  • Optical design achieves high resolution:
  • A new optical design that includes one aspherical element contributes to consistently high resolution from the image centre right out to the edges, while two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements effectively suppress chromatic aberration.
  • Close-ups with background bokeh:
  • An impressive minimum focusing distance of just 0.45 m (1.45 ft) (0.29x max. magnification) makes it easy to shoot close-ups that take advantage of the lens's beautiful background bokeh.
  • Beautiful bokeh:
  • Bokeh quality is enhanced by a circular aperture design.
  • Built-in optical image stabilization:
  • When shooting hand-held, especially for night scenes or dimly lit interiors, built-in optical image stabilization makes it easier to shoot blur-free images.
  • Fast, precise, quiet focus:
  • Advanced linear motor technology quietly drives the focus group with outstanding speed and precision, making the most of the high AF performance provided by the a6000 series. Accurate focus is more easily achieved for stills and movies, even with moving subjects.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from great expectations, poor experience main issues are the autofocus and the battery life. battery life it's rated at 320 shot, in reality, battery last, not longer than 50 shots autofocus performance are very poor, lenses mounted on this camera are all electronic that means more battery drain and slow autofocusing. many shoots I made were not in focus or missed due to the slowness of the lens. this never happen with the previus camera.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Video Issue I find this camera difficult to use. I actually traded a Sony Alpha a7-III because of the weight difference and my need for ease of use. However, as I used the video recording features, while pleased with the picture quality, I was greatly dismayed with the location of the recording button.. Why is the recording/end-recording button so small and why is it located at a corner of the camera which is difficult to locate when you are using either viewfinder to record . I found that I could not find this tiny button quickly and often had to resort to lowering the camera so that I could search for the thing in order to to stop recording. This button should be larger and located in a more readily accessible location, such as on the back or top of the camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This camera is the perfect size for travel. This camera can do everything. Just take you time and all the selections will make sense. While most advanced photographers use many of the manual selections the automatic selections help you never miss a shot while you are learning.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This camera is amazing in all... I'm very happy of: -Picture quality -Video quality -Full control for video and photo -Picture profiles (more dynamic range of s-log 2 and 3) - Slow motion with manual control and high bitrate - compact body - Internal stabilization (perfect for my Nikon prime lens) - Option to power camera with power bank (this give me all day shoot with no problem) - And I'm very happy with my test on rainy night (*The rain is not strong) I shoot with no cover with 18-105mm F4 OSS G lens and dont have any problem after that. -The camera have to many things who I love. I cant write all :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressive camera I am so impressed with how this camera performs! The IQ and low light capability are beyond my expectations! I've owned Nikon and switched to an A6000 because it was easier to take better photos because of the electronic view finder,, but the A6500 blows them both away in low light and IQ over all! If you don't crop an image,, the A6500 at 12,500 ISO give a good photo and real good at 6400 ISO! The silent shutter at 3 fps is amazing and the photo's are as good as when the silent mode is turned off! don't listen to the naysayers, this is an awesome camera! I am blown away and would not trade it for a camera costing double the price! Some of it could be due to the IBS, I'm sure but if your considering this camera, don't think twice, just buy it and enjoy the features!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Performer I have had my camera for about a year shooting video, stills, wildlife and scenery. It has travelled with me from desert heat to Antarctica, chasing whales in zodiacs. Fast shutter speeds allowed me to freeze birds and whales. No problems with focusing on fast moving critters. I got it as an alternate to my A7 to extend zoom capabilty of ny 70-300 to 450mm. It works well in dimly lit bars and bright snow. Battery life could be better but thats what soare batteries and pockets are for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just perfect It would take a lot of time for me to explain why this camera is perfect. I had nex-5n, a500, a5100, a6000 and now a6500. With this new model all shortcomings of earlier models are addressed. For example with a6500 you can manually (with one press of customized button) switch from viewfinder to lcd screen and proximity sensor turns on and off the viewfinder when it's selected, this way it's possible to have camera turned on with screen and viewfinder off. This was not possible in a6000, it was possible only to turn off the screen but the back light was always on. There is a lot of small and big modifications in a6500, it's a very high quality professional product - You can't go wrong with it! I use mine with selp18105g which is very nicely balanced with the camera, and a perfect fit to hold in hands while using it. Thx dev

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great form-factor but disappointing Several things exacerbate my dislike for the camera, e.g. 1. Deplorable battery life; just not big enough for all the things requiring juice; start-up lag time is a couple of seconds. 2. Fiddley little controls are ruff for old shakey fingers: the way some function suddenly doesn't work is often an inadvertent button-push that toggles an unwanted function 3. Rear LCD screen is impossible to read in strong sunlight - thereby hindering access to menus and adjustments like exposure comp! 4. Focus points should be accessible by touching rear screen, but that means they are reset to some corner by your cheek unless you lock them to, for instance, the center position. Focus point indicators very hard to see in bright sunlight; focusing via the contrast-detection is slow and fails more than in my Canon...an 8 year old technology! Phase detection focusing is only available IF you use the big A-mount lenses with an adapter!!! 5. Lens zoom ring and focus ring are virtually touching each other...easily mistaken if trying to touch-up focus; also, compared to every other ILC camera I've owned, mounting the lens to body feels "scratchy" and harsh - not precise. 6. Removal of SD card impaired by door only opening 90°: a finger nail buster. 7. In spite of largish APS-C sensor, the noise at even 800 DIN is noticeable. Stuff I've read says the new BSI (backside illuminated) sensors are the way of the future as they greatly reduce noise at high sensitivity. But, of course, that's another drain on the pathetic battery.
