In our DSLR 201: Nikon Cameras course the emphasis is on understanding the vital roles that Shutter Speed and Aperture play in the photographic process. We'll explore how you can use Shutter Speed to convey motion via blur effects, or to freeze moving subjects. You will also learn how to blur backgrounds while maintaining sharp focus on your subject to create a desirable subject/background separation by controlling the Aperture. We will explore Exposure, Metering Modes and Exposure Lock to provide you greater creative control over the end result. During the session you will engage in hands-on activities with the guidance of the instructor using your own camera.

Owners of Nikon DSLR cameras who wish to take creative control of their images by using Aperture & Shutter Priority modes. To attend this course you should be confident with changing focus modes and focus areas, using exposure compensation, changing white balance and ISO settings, and taking control over the built-in flash.
At the end of the course you will be provided with a password to download class notes from our website. These notes are great for reviewing the topics discussed in class.

I took this course at the Henry's location in Vaughan. The instructor was excellent. He was very knowledgeable. He took the time to really explain the material. I left wanting to go out apply what I had learned right away. I would recommed this course to anyone who is interested in taking creative pictures or someone who really wants to take full advantage of their cameras capability.

I took this course on Saturday at the Merivale (Nepean) location - excellent course! The instructor (Tim Olett) really knew photography and had a lot of good tips to share. I also did toe DSLR101 at the Bank Street (Ottawa) location - this was the better of the two!
I was very impressed with the information and how things were covered. Almost felt like we could have stayed longer as there was so much for us to take in. Marty was a wealth of knowledge and it was wonderful to see that he loves what he does...and is very good at it. He made everyone feel very comfortable, no matter what level you were at. Looking forward to the next step!
Just completed this course last Friday. Bob (the instructor) was very knowledgeable and personable - he delivered a very informative course and did so with humour. Great information on histograms and bracketing. Will be booking more courses.
I picked up a D5100 a few weeks back and while very impressed with what the auto and mode functions gave me for results, that was not why I bought a DSLR. This 201 course, along with the 101 really helped to get over the hump of where to find everything I was looking for and vaguely remembered from 35mm SLR days of a couple decades ago. Now, thanks to the instructors at the Dartmouth Henrys, it is once again me taking the photo, not the camera. Both of the instructors I had were extremely knowledgable and very personable. The Henrys approach to teaching is both professional and persaonable. Not an easy thing to accomplish. It has impressed me enough that I have already taken one of the creative series classes and am signed up for four more!
Clear and easy to follow explanations coupled with hands on camera work made this class very informative and well worth the cost of registration. I wish I had taken it sooner!

I took this course in St. John's NFLD and Marc was the instructor. This was a 3 hour class and all subjects were covered as advertised. Marc is an excellent instructor, if any of the students had questions he ensured their questions were answered. This lesson focused on aperture and shutter priority and when to use each one. We talked about using ISO and tripods in low light situations. At the end of the course we touched lightly on using RAW over Jpeg, the pros and cons of both. I was hoping to learn about manual settings, but that must be on another course.
Many thanks to Ully at the May 20, 2011 session for helping to explain the additional features/programs on my D3100. It's great after more than 6 months of owning this camera, to treat it as more than a point-and-shoot! I echo those who said they'd wished they had taken the class sooner. I'm looking forward to practicing and learning more about this great camera - I'm already planning to buy the 50 mm F1.4 prime lens that was recommended for the portrait photos I like to take.
Let me start by saying I enjoyed this class. I found it really helped A LOT understanding aperture, shutter and ISO. The instructor was knowledgeable and personable. He was very approachable and answered questions well. There were some hands on exercises to practise. With that said I would have liked if it if we had gotten a chance to practise more with the instructor out in the real world and not in a white walled room! Despite this drawback, I would strongly recommend this course to anyone who is unsure of the afore mentioned concepts. It is definitely worth the money spent.
I'm torn between giving this class a 3 star or 4 star rating. I found Part 1 really helpful with valuable tips. Part 2 however, I felt didn't delve as deep as I would have expected. I felt that while part one gave me way more insight than the instruction manual, Part 2 still kept things very basic for a course labelled "intermediate". I would recommend this course to someone who finds themselves still unsure of some of the functions after Part 1 like manipulating the ISO or who has little or no understanding of aperture or shutter priority.
