Our DSLR 101: Sony Cameras course is an essential first step to learning how to get the very best results with your DSLR camera. This course is all about gaining familiarity with the key features of the camera that you'll use every day.

Our primary goal in this course is to quickly graduate from the cameras AUTO mode. We'll show you how to use shooting modes specific to everyday shooting scenarios such as sports, portraiture and landscape.

Most importantly, we'll show you how to take control of your camera so that you'll be able to achieve great results even in challenging light or when your subject is moving quickly. You'll also learn how to take control of your cameras focus system to ensure that your subject is always clear and sharp.

Course Outline:

- Essential everyday camera controls
- Using camera presets for specific shooting scenarios
- Taking control of focus for clear and sharp photos
- Photographing subjects in motion successfully
- How to overcome challenging lighting scenarios

I'm brand new to DSLRs and LOVED this course. The instructor in Oakville was really helpful. She gave us a lot of relevant photography tips and tricks along the way too. She took her time showing us how to access the menus/functions on the camera and made sure we got it. She was very clear at the beginning of the class about pointing out that we wouldn't need to take notes during the course if we didn't want to as we would be able to download the notes/presentation provided during the course once we got home. And she also told us, at the beginning, that first she would go through the steps of getting to the menu/function, then she would show us on the camera she was using, then we would be able to do it. Now I want to take more courses from Henry's School of Imaging because I learned so much from this one and there's still so much to learn!

Attended the Sony A33/55 class today in Nepean at the Hunt Club store. Excellent class taught by Tim. (Tim O'Lett, I think) He went over exactly what I needed to know to help me use my camera to the best of its and my ability! Everything is much clearer now and I can't wait to start shooting again using my new knowledge! I knew the camera had so much more to offer and I had never used it to its potential. Now I can!! I look forward to taking Part 2 as soon as I perfect the techniques I learned in Part 1. Well worth the time and money for this class and recommend it!

I attended the class on the weekend in Pickering which was taught by Duke. After I purchased my Sony A380, I tried reading the manual only to put it down in frustration. I tried playing with the features but had no idea what I was doing and why. After taking this course on Saturday, I feel much more confident in being able to shoot outside of the Auto mode. Duke had great examples to bring the techie part of the camera into lay-man's terms. Our class size was small with only 3 students. Lots of one on one time and freedom to ask questions. It's handy that class notes are provided so you aren't spending your time try to jot down all the information provided. It's also nice that the class is brand specific. Now all that is left to do is practice, practice, practice.

  • Very Good Introductory Course

I highly recommend this course for those moving up from point and shoot cameras, or those who have already moved up, but have little experience with anything more than the different scene modes. I took this course on Feb. 5th at the Markham location. The class was 5 in total with Francis Livingston as our instructor. The Markham classroom was perfect - small class size, intimate, well-equipped, and good lighting - no complaints. Francis did an excellent job of introducing us to the features of the a33 & a55, and even though myself and another participant had the older a200, Francis knew what capabilities it had and didn't have compared to the newer models. I believe that Francis succeeded in the goal he stated at the beginning of the class - get us to take control of our cameras - primarily by going beyond scene modes. By the end of the course, I was confident in not only knowing how to adjust ISO, exposure compensation, focus mode, and white balance, but more importantly - I knew why, and under what circumstances, I should. I am hoping that Part 2 will be as good, or even better, than Part 1. At the time of this review, I don;t see any dates posted for Part 2 at any locations - but when they are, I will definitely be attending. Thank you for an excellent course, and thank you Francis for teaching it so well...

Well I just took the course today and it was great! The teacher, Chris, was full of knowledge and had no problem answering questions during the class (no fluffing off questions till later). We had a point where an option on my camera was unknown (A500) but he took the time to find how it was done and then showed me. You couldn't ask for a better class. I think it also helped that the class size was small and camera specific. I will definitely be going back to take Part 2 with Chris and "Henry the camera" in Ancaster.
