  • Excellent Workshop for DSLR 101-Nikon Beginners

  • October 27, 2012
  • By: Adam

I've owned the Nikon D5100 for just over a year and have never taken the camera out of the Auto setting. I signed up for the course and couldn't be happier with the experience. The instructor Rob P. was excellent at getting me to understand my camera and to get the max out of it. Being a hockey blogger and taking a lot of pictures of hockey action, most of them didn't turn out great. Now with Rob's help I'm excited to try out my new photography techniques! I would recommend anyone who hasn't taken their camera off of Auto setting to sign up for this course. I'm looking forward to taking DSLR 201-Nikon after I've mastered the skills learned from Rob and Henrys. Thanks for putting on such a great workshop!

  • Awesome for Beginners

I signed up for this course after owning the Nikon D5100 for about 10 months. The course was well planned and presented. The course instructor (Michael W) was very knowledgeable and has a great presenting style. My understanding of the course material was fairly good. Most functions and technical terms I could follow but learned some different methods to setting up the camera and using it more to it's potential. Now with a deeper understanding of what functions i can control and change, my photographs are more appealing. My goal was to use this camera as it was intended and not as a glorified point and shoot camera. This course provided the basic knowledge to start that journey. Looking forward to attending other courses and learning more about photography.

  • A MUST COURSE TO TAKE

  • April 09, 2012
  • By: MARYANN

I received the Nikon D5100 camera as a gift a couple of months back and the pictures I took were just not turning out very well. lighting was off or flash was going off at wrong times. I decided to take the course and am so glad that I did. Not only did I learn about all the different buttons on my camera and what they mean, but we reviewed the different scene setting and what they mean. Also learned so much about exposure and the proper way to hold a camera. I really do feel like an amateur photographer now as my pictures are turning out great. I would recomment this course to anyone who has purchased a Nikon D5100. excellent course!

  • A MUST for DSLR Rookies and Novices

  • February 08, 2012
  • By: Robert

If you are new to DSLR then this is a MUST attend. I have had a camera for almost 2 years and took a bunch of mediocre (well bad) photos - DON'T make this mistake - take it right away. The instructor was extremely knowledgable and made it easy to learn. Took away TONS of good practices. Looking forward to applying what I have learned and maybe taking more courses.

  • Great for Beginners!

I got a Nikon D5100 Camera for Christmas and not even knowing about the camera the DSLR is excellent. When i took the workshop Jan. 8, 2012 it taught me just that little bit more that I did not know and never would have figured out on my own. The course was 3 hours and we were taught the basic knowledge we had to know about the Nikon DSLR, this is my first DSLR Camera and I am just loving the outcome of the pictures, especially now that I know that much more after the workshop course. Andre Paraskevas was the instructor of our workshop and with him having the years of Photography behind him, he was able to give the class a few pointers of his own, from his own experience over the years of taking photos. You can tell Andre loves photography and it shows in his teaching, you can tell he wants you to get the most of the workshop and was willing to answer those questions that still needed answers for some other people. I am anxious to take the next step for the Nikon DSLR 102 and learn that much more about this great camera! Thanks Andre it was a pleasure learning from you.

  • Excellent Course

  • January 09, 2012
  • By: Brian

I took this course last Thursday in Ottawa - it was great! The instructor (Jim) was really knowledgeable about the capabilities of the camera (I have a D3100). I got my camera in November, so I had played with it before the class, but learned so much more from this. I am already registered for the DSLR201 course in a couple of weeks - if this one is the basis to compare to, then the 201 should be an excellent class as well!

  • A definite "must take" introductory course

  • September 16, 2011

I just concluded taking this course today at the Scarborough location. The instructor was very knowledgeable and provides great tips/techniques. For those beginners who think they'll just figure out everything with their new DSLR camera, trust me, you're wrong. If anything, this course instantly makes you realize there's so much to learn and try. I was very impressed by it and started looking at when I can take the DSLR 201 course next. Two thumbs up!

  • Great introductory course!

Very useful. By the time I took the class, I'd had my D5100 for a month and taken it on vacation so it wasn't a complete mystery to me. BUT if I'd been able to take the course first, I would have taken even better pictures. Yeah, I looked through the manual on CD but it's was just too much to take in! This course covers the most useful settings and options that will help you take better pictures right away. I've stopped shooting using only the "auto" setting and I'm looking forward to taking the second part of the course where I can explore the full potential of the camera.

  • Very informative

This is the course when you buy your 1st DSLR camera. I walked away feeling much more confident about using my camera. Of course there is a self practice factor which everyone must consider. If you don't practice, there is no meaning to attend either. During the workshop facilitator went beyond the time limit which was good therefore I didn't need to absorb many new information in a such short time.

  • Well done

I found this workshop to be very informative and insightful. The instructor introduced many of the concepts in a very picturesque fashion and was able to use analogies to compare the camera functions to daily life - a very metacognitive teaching technique that is used to explain material successfully. Good job!

It is as described; a beginner course focusing on the basic functions of the camera. A very well thought out class with great structure, building on lessons learned throughout. Very knowledgeable staff made question asking a breeze. This class is a must to get comfortable with the camera. I am looking forward to part 2 and learning more advanced techniques.

  • A must take foundation course

  • By: Jewell

This was an great course with an excellent instructor. Great focus on just the basics you need to know to get around the camera. A much better use of time then trying to learn from the manual or other books. Well worth taking for anyone who has invested in these cameras. Fantastic tips too. Thanks Michael!

  • For beginners

This was a very informative course. This course is for anyone that knows very little about their D80/D90/3000/5000. It's more for basic navigation and functionality of the camera. If you're looking to learn how to take better pictures, you're better off taking the Part 2. I've had my D90 for about 6 months and have played around with it's features and functions. I might have learned maybe 2 or 3 things that I didn't before. I would recommend this course for beginners. intermediate users should consider taking a more advance course.

This course would have been a wonderful introduction to the camera if it had come as FREE when purchasing the camera. By the time the course came up I found a lot of the information redundant as you would have had to figure some of the basics out all ready. I found the course a little agitating as you were spending a lot of time going between the three cameras, therefore losing some of the information momentum you acquire on your camera. NOW FOR THE NOTES! I just reviewed them and wouldn't mind printing off the ones that pertain to MY camera and not all the other filler from 48 pages worth and it is not possible. I feel like I am getting punished for wanting the notes. Just a little frustrating.
