I attended the May 28 session in the Newmarket location. Ross was the instructor. There were 5 of us which allowed for a lot of interaction. The content definitely met and exceeded my expectations. Ross was awesome: very knowledgeable, and passionate about photography. He delivered the course in a fun, interactive, and encouraging way. I learned so much! and particularly, learned to let go and take pictures, and practice...and to have fun while at it!!!! Thank you Ross! and thank you too to the other folks who attended as everyone contributed to create a fun, learning environment!
This course is a great way to learn how to use your DSLR. There is nothing like a few hours of hands-on teaching and practice to get you started right. Price was a bargain for what I learned. I wish I'd done it right away instead of spending the first 4 months after buying the camera floundering! Thanks for a great course, Richard!
This course was very helpful ... I learned a lot of neat tips that are sure to improve my skills! Jason was a great instructor! just the right amount of lessons and hands on learning ...the take home notes are great as well ... I can hardly wait to take the 201 course
I enjoyed this course very much.
Excellent course for those who are new to this type of camera. I found it to be very interesting and the instructor was awesome.
I enjoyed the class very much, the instructor (Bob.M) kept the class engaged. He is very knowledgeable and was fun to work with. I recommend this class to anyone with the new camera to move away from AUTO.
Deanna taught the course on Jan 10th. She was very knowledgeable and patient with the students. We had 9 or 10 people in our class and all different ages. Deanna kept the information flowing while making sure everyone understood.
I am happy that I took this introductory course and feel confident I will now be able to take some excellent pictures with my new D5300. I even feel confident enough now to get myself out of the Auto mode.
This is an excellent workshop for beginners. The first half is dedicated to simple camera features and menu operation. It also shows how to take pictures using the auto and presets. The second half is a good introduction to manual settings and having more control. Can't wait for 201.
I was delighted to have such an easy to understand presentation. Although I had shot 35mm years ago and more recently digital point and shoot I had just last week purchased my first DSLR and was having some problem amalgamating my previous experiences with what I read in the manual. It all became clear in class today and I will certainly take the next level very soon. The length of the class and having 7 students today was perfect. It was informal, allowed questions and the hands on with my own camera was very helpful. Although I have pain while sitting I found I was so enthralled I didn't mind at all and was quite surprised when the class drew to a close. I will certainly recommend these classes to friends.
After 3 month of looking forward to taking this course I was thrilled by the engaging instruction given by Martin at the Newmarket Location. The course was brought to light with his manner of teaching and left me so excited to come back and take another course. I feel like I left with the confidence to really start playing with my new camera and find out what my style is going to be. Thanks Martin your amazing!
Our instructor Lori was awesome! Super friendly, knowledgable, and patient. She was great with answering all of our specific questions regarding different areas of photography that we were all interested in. She never tried to push products or tried to convince us of things we "had" to buy- instead told us about some basic tools that we COULD purchase to make taking the shots we wanted easier, and also gave us alternate means of doing similar techniques with what we already had. I was afraid it was going to be an instructor standing at the front of the room talking "at" us for the 3 hours- it wasn't that at all. She encouraged us taking photos, playing with our individual cameras and doing hands on learning the whole time. Definitely would recommend this course to anyone looking to learn the functions of your camera- after just this my photos were VASTLY improved- I couldn't believe the difference! Looking forward to taking the next level course from School of Imaging to improve my skills even more!
After months of wanting to take this course and it fitting with my schedule,I signed up. It was a nice small class of 5. The instructor Darren was able to help everyone with their question's He made it very easy to follow. I am so glad I took this and hope to take the next level and continue learning. I really liked the idea of having the notes online later to go back to.
Thanks for the great course and looking forward to more:)
I went to this workshop yesterday and I was thoroughly satisfied with it. The instructor (Brandon) was quite patient and knowledgeable and answered everybody's questions and addressed their concerns. It was so good to know that somebody took time to remove some of our fears. I left the imaging school feeling empowered and knowing a lot more than what I knew before I took the course. The time spent at the work shop was well worth it. I was feeling frustrated before now I feel I know a lot more about my camera and it's not just knowing where the buttons are and what's in the manual but how to use them.what's more I like how they make the notes accessible to you for later review online. I would recommend that this course be taken it's worth it! Now off to practice what I learned.
I've been using a digital camera since 2002, and consider myself pretty knowledgeable with cameras, but this course made me feel like I knew nothing at all. I learned even more than I thought I would, and will definitely not be using Auto mode ever again! I took it at the Ancaster location, and the instructor (Chris) was fantastic. He made sure he knew the needs of all 6 students in attendance, and spoke to what we all needed while instructing. Whether you just bought a DSLR camera or have been using it for a while on Auto mode, I highly recommend this course.
I took this course thinking that it would be a DVD review or a basic understanding on how to use the Nikon D3200. But, I was terribly surprised at what I got in return. Alot more than I bargained for. Our course instructor went above nd beyond the curriculum as per course. We had plenty of tips but too little time to grasp them all. I surely would like to come back again for a repeater, if time permits.
If you are looking to learn to shoot off of auto, and never return, this is the class for you.
Martin, our instructor, was excellent!! Very hands on, willing and patient, and had some excellent shot fro around the world to share with us.
Highly recommended, will be taking another Nikon Class.
Took a private training course at the Regent location in Winnipeg and it was fantastic! Learned a lot and plan on taking more courses at Henry's. Dave Benson was wonderful!
Literally. It was great and I learned a bunch.
I've owned the Nikon D5100 for just over a year and have never taken the camera out of the Auto setting. I signed up for the course and couldn't be happier with the experience. The instructor Rob P. was excellent at getting me to understand my camera and to get the max out of it. Being a hockey blogger and taking a lot of pictures of hockey action, most of them didn't turn out great. Now with Rob's help I'm excited to try out my new photography techniques! I would recommend anyone who hasn't taken their camera off of Auto setting to sign up for this course. I'm looking forward to taking DSLR 201-Nikon after I've mastered the skills learned from Rob and Henrys. Thanks for putting on such a great workshop!
I signed up for this course after owning the Nikon D5100 for about 10 months. The course was well planned and presented. The course instructor (Michael W) was very knowledgeable and has a great presenting style. My understanding of the course material was fairly good. Most functions and technical terms I could follow but learned some different methods to setting up the camera and using it more to it's potential. Now with a deeper understanding of what functions i can control and change, my photographs are more appealing. My goal was to use this camera as it was intended and not as a glorified point and shoot camera. This course provided the basic knowledge to start that journey. Looking forward to attending other courses and learning more about photography.
I received the Nikon D5100 camera as a gift a couple of months back and the pictures I took were just not turning out very well. lighting was off or flash was going off at wrong times.
I decided to take the course and am so glad that I did. Not only did I learn about all the different buttons on my camera and what they mean, but we reviewed the different scene setting and what they mean. Also learned so much about exposure and the proper way to hold a camera. I really do feel like an amateur photographer now as my pictures are turning out great.
I would recomment this course to anyone who has purchased a Nikon D5100.
If you are new to DSLR then this is a MUST attend.
I have had a camera for almost 2 years and took a bunch of mediocre (well bad) photos - DON'T make this mistake - take it right away.
The instructor was extremely knowledgable and made it easy to learn.
Took away TONS of good practices.
Looking forward to applying what I have learned and maybe taking more courses.
I got a Nikon D5100 Camera for Christmas and not even knowing about the camera the DSLR is excellent. When i took the workshop Jan. 8, 2012 it taught me just that little bit more that I did not know and never would have figured out on my own. The course was 3 hours and we were taught the basic knowledge we had to know about the Nikon DSLR, this is my first DSLR Camera and I am just loving the outcome of the pictures, especially now that I know that much more after the workshop course. Andre Paraskevas was the instructor of our workshop and with him having the years of Photography behind him, he was able to give the class a few pointers of his own, from his own experience over the years of taking photos. You can tell Andre loves photography and it shows in his teaching, you can tell he wants you to get the most of the workshop and was willing to answer those questions that still needed answers for some other people. I am anxious to take the next step for the Nikon DSLR 102 and learn that much more about this great camera! Thanks Andre it was a pleasure learning from you.
I took this course last Thursday in Ottawa - it was great! The instructor (Jim) was really knowledgeable about the capabilities of the camera (I have a D3100). I got my camera in November, so I had played with it before the class, but learned so much more from this. I am already registered for the DSLR201 course in a couple of weeks - if this one is the basis to compare to, then the 201 should be an excellent class as well!
I just concluded taking this course today at the Scarborough location. The instructor was very knowledgeable and provides great tips/techniques.
For those beginners who think they'll just figure out everything with their new DSLR camera, trust me, you're wrong. If anything, this course instantly makes you realize there's so much to learn and try.
I was very impressed by it and started looking at when I can take the DSLR 201 course next. Two thumbs up!
Very useful. By the time I took the class, I'd had my D5100 for a month and taken it on vacation so it wasn't a complete mystery to me. BUT if I'd been able to take the course first, I would have taken even better pictures. Yeah, I looked through the manual on CD but it's was just too much to take in! This course covers the most useful settings and options that will help you take better pictures right away. I've stopped shooting using only the "auto" setting and I'm looking forward to taking the second part of the course where I can explore the full potential of the camera.
This is the course when you buy your 1st DSLR camera. I walked away feeling much more confident about using my camera. Of course there is a self practice factor which everyone must consider. If you don't practice, there is no meaning to attend either.
During the workshop facilitator went beyond the time limit which was good therefore I didn't need to absorb many new information in a such short time.
This is definitely a have course when you buy your 1st DSLR camera. Both my wife and I attended and we walked away feeling much more confident about using our camera. I'm very excited to continue on taking courses with Henry's.
I found this workshop to be very informative and insightful. The instructor introduced many of the concepts in a very picturesque fashion and was able to use analogies to compare the camera functions to daily life - a very metacognitive teaching technique that is used to explain material successfully. Good job!
It is as described; a beginner course focusing on the basic functions of the camera. A very well thought out class with great structure, building on lessons learned throughout. Very knowledgeable staff made question asking a breeze. This class is a must to get comfortable with the camera. I am looking forward to part 2 and learning more advanced techniques.
This was an great course with an excellent instructor. Great focus on just the basics you need to know to get around the camera. A much better use of time then trying to learn from the manual or other books. Well worth taking for anyone who has invested in these cameras. Fantastic tips too. Thanks Michael!
I took this class with Phil in Oshawa location and it was great! I recommend it. This will definitely have me out of auto mode and I am confident I'll be able to apply what I learned and take much better pictures. He made sure we all understood (about 10 of us) and the pace was great.
This was a very informative course. This course is for anyone that knows very little about their D80/D90/3000/5000. It's more for basic navigation and functionality of the camera. If you're looking to learn how to take better pictures, you're better off taking the Part 2. I've had my D90 for about 6 months and have played around with it's features and functions. I might have learned maybe 2 or 3 things that I didn't before.
I would recommend this course for beginners. intermediate users should consider taking a more advance course.
I took the 3 hour course, nice small class and very knowledgeable instructor.
However, I found that while I expected a "beginner 101" class to start with the basics, this class seemed to run on the assumption that everyone had a good background on how to use the camera as well as terms (ie: ISO, aperature etc).
I was hoping to actually start with the basics and came away with more questions than before I attended.
The instructor definitely knew his stuff but the class was most certainly more advanced and I expected.
This course would have been a wonderful introduction to the camera if it had come as FREE when purchasing the camera. By the time the course came up I found a lot of the information redundant as you would have had to figure some of the basics out all ready. I found the course a little agitating as you were spending a lot of time going between the three cameras, therefore losing some of the information momentum you acquire on your camera. NOW FOR THE NOTES! I just reviewed them and wouldn't mind printing off the ones that pertain to MY camera and not all the other filler from 48 pages worth and it is not possible. I feel like I am getting punished for wanting the notes. Just a little frustrating.
