  • Expensive but worth it .

After purchasing the D7100 2 years ago I fell in love with photography. Admittedly not knowing anything about photography but having a deep affection for birds and wildlife, I decided that the D7100 was the camera for me. I've enjoyed the journey so far. I recently watched and read many reviews of the D810. I kept hearing that full frame is the only way too go. So, I made the leap. Although I'm still very inexperienced I must say this camera has been an absolute dream to work with. The quality of images when paired with the 80-400 VRII and Sigma 35mm 1.4 have been nothing shy of spectacular. I can only imagine how amazing the photos will be when I actually figure out what I'm doing. I just wish I'd started sooner.

  • Loving my D810

I pre-ordered the D810 and (not so) patiently waited for its release. Truth be told... I hounded the staff at Henry's prior to it's arrival... "is it there yet?! is it there yet?!" They were always nice about my D810 OCD. I've owned this camera since the first hour it came out. This camera is INCREDIBLE! There is a bit of a learning curve because of the amazing sharpness of all those 36+ megapixels coupled with the new sensor. and faster processor. But after a few exposures everything was great! For me the coolest feature is the auto ISO when shooting video. It's so smooth and really undetectable going from one lighting situation to another. All in all I would highly recommend this camera to any pro or dedicated hobbyist. My friends that shoot the 5D MK III are a little jealous for sure... but they would NEVER admit to it ;) Bravo Nikon! Bravo!

  • Nikon D810

When I took the camera home, I had a bit of buyers remorse. It seemed to be a lot of money to spend on a camera. But when I took my first photos, that all changed. I couldn't get over not only the quality, the resolution that I saw on my monitor, but the crispness of the image through the viewfinder, the ease of changing the ISO, the f-stop and where in the frame the camera focuses. All are superb. The manual is a bit daunting (500 pages!), but basic usauge is easy to learn. Especially if you've owned a Nikon camera. It's a great camera. And so is the f-4 24-120 lens that I got with it. Crisp and easy to focus.

  • Best Camera I've Ever Had

I've owned Nikon D5200, D5300, D750, Canon 70D, Canon Rebel 5ti, and now I have the D810. It's the best: colours, sharpness, resolution, autofocus, video shooting are outstanding. I'm very satisfied. The camera especially shines when you pair it with a good lens: I'm using a Sigma 35 mm F1.4 (excellent ratings on and the pictures are amazing.

Coming from a D700, which shows zero noise in raw files up to around ISO 800, it's shocking to find that the D810 shows lots of noise from ISO 200. But, that noise is much smaller (grain size) so your details are still okay, and there's far finer detail with this awesome resolution. Image quality is fantastic with this camera. Another surprise is the lighter weight of the camera and the extremely quiet shutter; it's very nice. With the improved optical viewfinder and live view function, it's superb.

  • Awesome

I didn't like the experimental setup of the sensor on the D800E, so I have been using the D800 for the past 2 years knowing that Nikon would release a model where there is no optical low pass filer. This D810 model is amazing. I especially like the fact that I can shoot at ISO 64 again. The speed is faster and the buffer size is double that of the D800 which you need with files of this size. The smaller file size for RAW could be good but I doubt I would use it. Why pay for this big sensor and not use all of it? There are lots of great improvements - including the new super fast focusing system. The ultra quiet shutter is a nice bonus. The stereo recording means you don't have to get extra hardware to record stereo videos. And the auto ISO on the videos ... they really have packed a lot of improvements into this model.

After making the switch from Canon (1Dxxx bodies) I can honestly say this is the best camera i've ever owned, or maybe will ever own. If you can afford it, do not hesitate.

  • The Perfect Camera

  • October 27, 2014
  • By: Will

I pre-ordered my D810 once I read the specs. I was leaning towards a D800E before that, but the D810 addresses many of the problems of the D800/E and adds a few nice touches. The tweaked ergonomics make it even more comfortable for long days of shooting, the "i" button makes it even easier to use (I use the menu banks a lot) and the new Expeed 4 processor/36.3MP sensor combo is ridiculous: ISO64-12800 with a boost to ISO32-51200 and crazy dynamic range. High ISO isn't as clean as the Canon 5D, but Lightroom can do amazing things when you have all that resolution. I've shot with every Nikon DSLR and most Canon and Sony DSLRs and think the D810 with MB-D12 grip is the best Nikon, if not best camera, yet made. It's changed my photography for the better!
