  • The cream of the crop

It is quite simply the best glass you can mount to a Nikon body. Absolutely tack sharp to the edges, lightening fast to focus and f2.8 throughout the 70-200mm focal range. This lens is legendary and now with its improved VR system its a must have for any photography enthusiast, professional or hobbyist. I highly recommend this product and assure you that you will not be disappointed. Cheers

  • What more could you want?

Lens is super sharp at all focal lengths and apertures. VR stabilizes quickly and I`m able to handhold at slow shutter speeds. The bokeh is amazing and you can easily use this as a portrait lens. Accurately snaps to focus and the focus is always spot on. This honestly couldn't be any better: sharp, fast, great boheh. Its versatility makes it a sports, action, event and portrait lens with no rival. I thought I would miss having 300mm but this is so sharp that I`d rather crop a 200mm picture from this lens than have a soft 300mm picture from another lens.

  • Worth all the pennies! (that's 240,000 pennies)

Amazing lens, cannot believe how awesome it performs. It pretty much never leaves my camera unless I'm shooting something closer then ~10ft. When shooting portraits, the bokeh is superb, and because of the reach you don't have to get in your subjects face. I love it, and so do they for this reason. When shooting weddings I can stay "in the wings" producing photo's that look like I'm breathing down the couples necks. The only complaint I get from my subjects is that I can see nearly every pore on their face before sharpening. AF is ridiculously fast and bang on, it only hunts when the subject is too close or I'm doing something silly (trying focusing on a flat, matte, black shirt in the shade.) Paired with an SB900 and AF is always, and I mean always, bang on and nearly instantaneous. One thing I will say though, if you're planning on doing any nature photography where the subjects are small (birding) or will be distance/skiddish (bears, deer) with this lens you'll want one of the teleconverters. The TC20E-III is supposed to work perfectly with this lens, turning it into a 140-400mm f5.6/210-600mm f5.6 (FX)/(DX) lens. Mind you, even with 400mm you may still be too close to the bear :D When you read up on this lens everyone sings it's praises and it definitely deserves them.

  • NOTHING ELSE CAN COMPARE

PROS: fast focus. Anti vibration II allows you to shoot up to 4 stops slower in poor light. Tripod mount directly to the lens for more balanced shots on long focal length lenses. No color fringing or aberration. No vignetting even when fully zoomed. 77 mm lens barrel thread to match your other pro glass filters. CONS: Overall I have no complaints about this other than I needed a small truckload of cash to purchase it. But as has been said in the preceding reviews it is worth every penny. This is a heavy lens and when coupled with a pro body or anything bigger than a D7000 you really know you are carrying a pro piece of equipment around. GENERAL: this is the most amazing and versatile lens I have owned. this AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II though heavy because it is built like a tank: is absolutely crazy in its focusing speed. it actually tracks and hits focus so fast, I find myself surprised each time I point the focus point to a new position in my viewfinder because the response is that fast... the tack sharp image quality and color tone of this piece of hardware is astounding. generally with other lenses.(Sigma, Tamron ) you get accustomed to having to adjust the saturation to compensate in post processing....not with this lens. And focal length isn?t affected by aperture as this is a 2.8 and is plenty capable of handling those low light shooting situations. HENRYS: I have purchased all my gear at Henrys and have great respect for the depth of knowledge of the sales staff, who always take the time to make each purchase a pleasant experience. Thanks to the Brampton staff for being awesome.

  • Financially Pinched my Pockets, But worth every Penny

For a long time I have been deciding on this zoom lens, but the price put me off. At the Henry's Photo Expo I got an opportunity to try out the Sigma and this lens. Sigma was much cheaper than the Nikon. I tried the Sigma on my camera and then tried the Nikon. At once I could feel the difference. Without wasting any time I purchased this Nikon lens. Henry's at the show gave me a price match. Awesome. Since then I have been shooting indoors and outdoors. I got superb results each time even without the tripod. The portraits were never as good before, now they are excellent. Outdoor the lens behaves so good, that I now can feel like a professional . Focusing is good, clarity is perfect, Zooming in and out is smooth unlike other lenses. Looking forward for picture perfect photos during my Mountain region expedition this summer. worth every Penny........

  • It's night and day!

  • June 13, 2011

I read tons of reviews before buying this lens and albeit the mixed reviews, I was 80% convinced. I went to the Henry's Imaging show last month and tried the "comparable 70-200" Sigma and Tamron lenses on my Nikon D7000 and fell in love with this Nikon 70-200 F2.8 VR II. It's night and day compared to the other brands... you always get what you pay for! Super fast and super sharp even with low light! I bought this primarily to shoot under low to poor lighting conditions using no flash and it's exceeding my expectations. Focus is fast and always bang-on at any focal length. Bokeh is excellent at F2.8 and takes fantastic portrait shots racked at 85mm. I would like to add the fantastic service I got from Henry's in Brampton during and even after the sale. You guys rock! Worth every penny!

  • AMAZING!

I owned an 80-200mm f2.8 AF D lens. But while that lens was great, THIS lens, the 70-200 f2.8 VRII just blows it away! Used on a D3 this lens is simply amazing. Forget about the 'short focal length' comments, in actual use that doesn't matter. The sharpness of the photos speak for themselves.

So fast and versatile. Results on a D810 are just excellent. I'll never get rid of this. At least, not 'til the next version comes out. :)

  • Fabulous Lens

I just traded in my Nikon 70-200mm VRI lens for the VRII model and I am sorry I didn't do it earlier. The Vibration Reduction (VR) on the new lens is far superior to the VRI and my photos are sharper and brighter. I just finished shooting a fashion show and the close focus distance of just over 4 feet was great as well. Well worth the upgrade.

  • Pro all the way

  • June 02, 2015
  • By: George

This is a top grade lens that is the best I have ever used. You will spend less on Sigma or Tamron, but in the end, you'll sell those at a loss and buy the Nikkor and realize you should have got the Nikkor in the first place. Get the 24-70 2.8 as well and you will have the 2 best workhorse lenses you can get for Nikon FX bodies.

  • worth waiting for the right price

  • September 14, 2014
  • By: Brian

Spent the last 5 months waiting for the price to drop back to the previous low. Bought this lens the day it did. Henry's price matched as always. I took the best pictures of my life the first weekend I had it. the other reviews pretty much cover it's photographic excelence. I will add that I love that I can rotate from horizontal to vertical on the tripod without the expense of an additional bracket for the camera. glad I had the battery grip for my D600 as you need it to help balance this heavy lens. The camera balances very nicely on my black rapid strap when suspended from the lens rather than the camera. 1.4X teleconverter next.

  • A Favorite

  • By: Mark

Of all the lenses that I own, this is one of my favorites. Unbelievably sharp and very fast. Out of focus areas are very pleasing. Combining the F2.8 with the VR it is performs amazingly well in low light situations like wedding receptions and indoor sporting events. Produces exceptionally sharp detail.

  • THE Gold Standard!

I recently traded up from the Sigma 70-200 2.8 (too many warranty issues) and the Nikon easily outperforms on every level! Sharpness, speed, colour rendition, contrast, stabilisation and build quality is outstanding! There is a difference...my photos never looked better!
