It is perfect for astronomical photography and shooting of illumination because of the reduced blur on the point light sources near the edge of the image. It also creates an attractive bokeh in portraits and indoor shooting

This lens is on my camera 90% of the time during a wedding day! The bokeh, the response time, the hand feel, the crisp clean photos are so wonderful! I had the Canon 50mm and it has been out of commission for longer than it has worked and I haven't gotten it fixed for the 4th time and I don't think I will simply because this lens is so much better! I definitely won't be hesitating to purchase another Sigma ART lens in the future!

I've been shooting with it for a week and have been blown away with the results. Sharp, fast, good value (compared to Canon 50 f/1.2l). The lens is big and heavy compared to most other 50's so don't be surprised. Build quality and feel are amazing. In my opinion it looks pretty bad ass too.

  • Does not dissapoint

I mainly use my Canon mount lenses for wedding videography but I'm a photography enthusiast as well. This lens produces gorgeous video and photographs paired with a 5D Mark iii. I have a lot of glass, including Canon L glass, but I keep reaching for this lens the most often. 50mm on a full frame is the most versatile prime you can own. If you're on a crop sensor and can only afford 1 lens, go with the Sigma 35mm. These lenses are priced amazingly well for the quality. My only small complaint is the lens cap cheap and tough to snap on. I will be replacing it with a Canon lens cap, which is a sin.
