  • Amazing Performer

  • April 07, 2014
  • By: Brad

Considering this lens was released over a decade ago, it's surprising how well it performs on high resolutions bodies today (I use it on a D7100). It's big, tough, and heavy. But it's worth it to hold such a high quality piece of glass. This lens can almost do everything on my D7100. If only it had VR, this would be a 6/5 lens!

There i nothing much else to add, fast focusing, silent, excellent optics. Gathers a lot of light, should be the first lens upgrade (from the 18-55mm f3.5-5.6) of every DX format owner. Pricy but well worth it. It is a heavy lens, but good quality glass is not light. VR (vibration reduction) would be an awesome upgrade to this lens. Mine is attached to a D7100.

  • NIKON DX NIKKOR AF-S 17-55MM F2.8

This is the primary lens that i use on my D300 body. It is a fantastic lens with excellent image quality and fast focusing. This lens is well built and will endure the most toughest environments. The only down side to this lens is that it is of course a Dx lens and it is quite big and heavy. Overall it is a incredible lens with fast focusing, build quality, constant aperture, and internal zooming. So if you have enough money to buy this lens and are not planning on upgrading to full frame in the near future this is the perfect standard lens to replace the kit lens that Nikon offers.
