  • XLD Optical Design
  • Filter Diameter: 58 mm
  • VC Image Stabilization
  • Recommended for Full-frame and APS-C photographers:
  • For a 1:1 macro with image stabilization technology
  • Prime lens characteristics
  • Top-notch close-up performance
  • Enjoy dual format versatility, enabling use of lenses on APS-C and full-frame DSLRs
  • Tamron Di lenses are performance optimized for digital SLR cameras and usable with DSLRs featuring sensors commonly referred to as APS-C, measuring approximately 24mm x 16mm, as well as larger full frame (36mm x 24mm) sensors and 35mm film SLRs
  • Optical and image stabilizing technologies:
  • Images of astounding sharpness, augmented by natural blur effects
  • Compatible with full-size SLR cameras
  • High resolution with beautiful blur effects:
  • Optical design and rounded diaphragm deliver a spectacular blur effect
  • This macro lens maintains sharp focus on the subject together with soft natural blurring of foregrounds and backgrounds to achieve a richer, deeper feel in the image
  • eBAND (Extended Bandwidth & Angular-Dependency) Coating:
  • This coating technique developed by Tamron deploys a nano-structured layer (1nm = 1/1,000,000mm) of ultra-low refractive index, with dimensions smaller than the wavelengths of visible rays of light
  • This nano-structured layer coupled with the sophisticated multiple layer coatings underneath, yields significant anti-reflection properties, efficiently reducing undesired flare and ghosting to an absolute minimum to deliver sharp, crisp images
  • VC (Vibration Compensation):
  • This macro lens is equipped with the VC mechanism that delivers sharp and vivid viewfinder images
  • Even in low-light situations, camera shake is reduced to enable stress-free hand-held photography
  • 1:1 Maximum magnification ratio:
  • The maximum magnification ratio of the new 90mm Macro is 1:1, which lets you reproduce a life-size image of the subject on the image sensor
  • This lens is suited to close-up photography of small objects, enabling the photographer to capture the minute world that otherwise would be missed when viewed just by the naked eye
  • IF (Internal Focusing) System:
  • The lens incorporates the IF system, which focuses by moving only the internal lens group
  • The overall length of the lens therefore does not change when focusing, thus ensuring a broad working distance
  • As a result, comfortable macro shooting is enabled
  • Moisture-resistant construction:
  • Helps prevent moisture from penetrating the lens
  • USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive):
  • The quiet high-torque USD motor ensures a speedy and accurate autofocus response
  • Full-time manual focus:
  • Fine focus adjustments using manual focus can be made during autofocus shooting, without the need to change focus mode
  • Lens Construction (Groups/Elements): 11/14
  • Angle of View (diagonal): 27°02' (with full-size SLR cameras); 17°37" (with APS-C sized sensor digital SLR cameras)
  • Minimum Focus Distance: 0.3m (11.8 in)
  • Macro Magnification Ratio: 1:1
  • Working Distance: 139mm (5.5 in)
  • Filter Diameter: 58 mm

  • Good sharp lens, but..

Ive owned this lens for a year, using it with a Canon 6D. It is super sharp at macro distances with very good contrast and colour. The VC (Vibration Control, or image stabilisation) has been unreliable for me. I shot macro on a tripod so disabled VC for most of the work Ive done, so I hadnt noticed how VC worked until after I owned the lens for a while. I was disappointed that at shutter speeds where VC would be relied on, it produced soft images, and occasional, a ghost image, like two exposure in one, slight shifted. This is at any distance, not macro distances, so shooting a scene 30 feet away produces a soft image with VC enabled. I have had to turn off VC, and shoot at faster speeds, or use the tripod, which really defeats the purpose of paying for VC. Without VC, its a first rate piece of glass, and I would have no hesitation in rating it 5 stars. Fortunately, it has a manufacturers 6 year warranty, which I am now taking advantage of.
