- 16.05-megapixel Live MOS sensor:
- Wide dynamic range and high sensitivity image recording
- Panasonic focused on the following three areas: (1) minimizing noise in the sensor, (2) preventing sensor noise from entering the output signal, and (3) preventing noise from entering the signal processing circuit, power supply line and grounding line
- To reduce noise, it is also important to design the power supply wiring and the signal wiring connected to the engine to be as close to the same length as possible. These measures not only suppress noise but also help to improve processing speed
- Low-pass Filter:
- Low-pass filter on the surface of the Live MOS Sensor
- The filter optimizes the conventionally conflicting effects of increasing resolution while suppressing moire
- The unwanted data that leads to moire and false color is effectively eliminated while maintaining high resolution
- ISO 12800 / Extended ISO25600:
- Standard sensitivity is from ISO200 to ISO12800, but you can set sensitivity to ISO125 or ISO25600 by using an extension function
- Venus Engine:
- Refined to achieve superior noise reduction. With a combination of 3DNR and MNR, both bright area and dark area are faithfully reproduced with minimum noise across the entire focusing range in high sensitivity image recording
- 3DNR:
- 3D Noise Reduction (3DNR) detects smooth part and edge part of a picture and adjust the strength of noise reduction - stronger to the smooth part and milder to the edge part to maintain the descriptiveness
- Resolution is prioritized at edge area + Noise reduction is prioritized in soft gradation area
- MNR:
- Multi-process Noise Reduction (MNR) applies optimum noise reduction according to the brightness of the part of the image
- Images recorded in low-lit situations are now dramatically clear
- High frequency noise in the dark part is suppressed + Low frequency noise in the light part is suppressed
- HDR (High Dynamic Range):
- To cope with the extreme bright and dark contrast that you get, for example, with backlighting, consecutive photos are taken with different exposure levels and overlapped
- Blown highlights and blocked shadows are then deleted and a single photo is composed
- All processing is done in the background, so you can take your next shot without having to wait, ensuring that you don't miss a photo opportunity
- Electronic Shutter Function:
- Both the front and rear curtains in the DMC-GH3's shutter system are driven electronically for vibration-free operation
- This ensures crisp still-life images and landscapes with no pixel shifting
- Shutter Delay Function:
- To reduce the effect of hand-shake, the shutter is released after a specified time (8, 4, 2 or 1 sec) has passed
- ISO Setting in 1/3 EV Steps:
- When the ISO sensitivity step is set to 1/3 EV, the number of ISO sensitivity setting options increases, allowing finer adjustment and a higher level of image quality
- ISO Limit Set:
- The maximum sensitivity setting is applied to the Intelligent ISO Control and ISO AUTO functions
