Great travel lens...except for this...

...very annoying issue.
Forget about taking pictures at the wide end from 18 to around 27 when using built in flash. The lens is too long, and you'll get a shadow at bottom centre. Use of a dedicated flash unit will make this a non-issue...but do you want to carry around a flash in addition to this admittedly heavy lens when travelling?
Potential problem example: you're in a museum, can't use a tripod, and can't physically back up to capture the picture you want. No dedicated flash? Not a great result.
(Of course, your mileage may vary; I'm using it on a D90.)
The other issue is that it isn't a lightweight. May not be an issue for some, but could be a dealbreaker when you think about lugging this around all day!
However...in the daylight, as a general lens, it's great. Not having to worry about changing lenses in less than optimal conditions...beach shots, anybody?...means you can snap nice landscapes, then zoom into the boat on the horizon. Image quality is fine for the enthusiast (just my humble opinion), so if you're aware of the limitation, you should be quite happy with this lens.
