I'm an amateur, retiree that needed a camera that was easy to carry around, had good picture quality and would allow me to shoot from macro to extreme telephoto - all without breaking the bank nor needing a Mack truck to carry. My previous camera was a Nikon D800 with the 105mm macro and 18-300mm zoom but while the macro end was superb, the telephoto end left a LOT to be desired and I couldn't afford, nor carry, a long lens. I wanted a viewfinder, rear displays don't work for me, so I was amazed when I started exploring this pair. The macro mode on this lens lets me get close enough to meet most of my needs and the built-in 2X teleconverter is the icing on the cake. I paired this with the 75-300mm zoom so now I have two lenses that give me an effective range of 24-1200mm, that's easy to carry and does 3/4 size macro. The internally cropped, resampled image quality with the teleconverter is more than adequate for my needs so while it may not be for everyone, it meets all of my needs so I won't need the 60mm macro lens. In short, this is my ideal mix of image quality, convenience, capability and affordability.

First, I find it amazing that the E-M5 has not generated a review on Henrys yet? I bought this camera last November and I've had 7 months to play with it and here are my thoughts and impressions, in no particular order: - The camera has a beautiful retro look this is as functional as it is attractive. I chose the silver colour for maximum retro-appeal. (I understand that the black model though is a far bigger seller. It's also an attractive camera, but I was surprised to find that the "black rubberized" grip material on that camera is actually no grippier than the faux leather cover on my silver model!) - The camera feels very solid and well made, though the controls *are* understandably small and close together due to the smaller form factor. I bought some stick-on "soft buttons" on eBay to make the shutter and (especially) the video buttons easier to press. - The enhanced sensor in this camera is fantastic! Noticeably superior to my old E-P1. Noise control is fantastic and I can actually shoot as ISO 6400 without objectionable noise. The pictures seems clearer and sharper than my E-P1, even with the same lens. - The flip-out LCD screen is very useful. That plus the excellent OLED screen (which allows extreme viewing angles) means there's never a situation where you can't see the screen. - By comparison, the EVF (though quite good), is hardly used. Here's an unexpected gotcha I discovered that renders the EVF even more useless: normally the EVF is most useful when you're outdoors in bright sunlight, where the viewfinder is hard to see. However when you're outdoor in bright light, you tend to be wearing sunglasses. And, many sunglasses have polarizing lenses. However, the polarizing effect interacts with the EVF glass and effectively *blackens* the EVF!! Most of the image is obscured this way. Now, normal sunglass wearers can simply remove their shades to use the EVF. But I have prescription sunglasses, so removing them means I can't see the image! - The 5-axis image stabilizer on the E-M5 is almost worth the price of admission on its own! And, it works in video mode and stabilizes your videos so well it's almost as if you were using a SteadyCam. - Though the E-M5 has very good video (esp. with the help of the 5-axis stabilizer), if you're really serious about shooting video, I hear that the Panasonic GH3 is still better. In summary, you will not regret purchasing an OMD E-M5. I've seen tests where it bests an EOS 7D, meaning it can keep up with the best of APS-C DSLRs, but in a more compact package, with a growing lens selection.
