  • Increased versatility with excellent image quality!

This lens has the possibility to completely change the way you view your Fujifilm x-series camera. After purchasing an XE1 with the "kit" 18-55mm lens, I was completely astounded at the quality of the images this camera was able to produce. What I did not appreciate was the sheer size of the zoom lens; even on a compact system camera, this lens made my XE1 not terribly more portable or less conspicuous than my Pentax DSLR. Enter the 18mm f/2. This lens transforms my XE1 from an enthusiast camera into a portable, pocketable, rapid-fire street shooter that is nearly invisible to the people around you. The f/2 makes shooting in low light a breeze without a flash, and the bokeh is rendered nicely. To be perfectly honest, the optical quality of this lens is practically identical to the "kit" 18-55mm when set to 18mm. What you're gaining here over the "kit" is the extra stop (which DOES make a difference in low light), and the size of the lens. But for me, I was perfectly happy with the stellar image quality of the 18-55mm, so I wasn't terribly upset when the 18mm performed similarly; the size is what nets this lens such a high score from me, and the way this compact prime actually increases the versatility of your lens a hundredfold. Candid portraits, landscapes, street shooting, low light...this little gem does it all, and is a pleasure to use. If you're considering it, just do yourself a favor and pick it up. I love my own.

This is perhaps my favourite XF lens. While my natural field of view is closer to a 35mm, a 28mm-equivalent has better DOF. So its a bit of a takeoff, however, compared to the more recent XF lenses, the 28mm is very compact and light. This means it sits on one of my bodies most of the time and it's small enough on the X-E1 to fit in a jacket pocket. It is my go to combo when I run out the door. I've read complaints about its optics, but my results tell a different story, especially on the X-T1 where that bodies magic software make for some amazing jpegs. And, it is an f/2, so good in low light. It's also a fast focusing lens on any of my bodies. I ditched the original lens hood and started using a vented screw-on HK special, but am back to the original hood as it offers better protection in the rain even if the stupid rubber hood won't stay on... If I could have only one XF lens, this would be the one.

Excellent little lens, sharp even wide open, very fast AF, final image quality is close to Elmarit-M 28 ASPH on Leica M9, only four times cheaper.
