This is a lens with no negatives. None. It is sharp, fast, very contrasty, focuses extremely quickly, absolutely stunning bokeh, and is insanely affordable. This has to be the best value lens for micro four thirds. I have owned it for over a year, and the shots coming out of this lens accompanied by an OMD rivals the image quality of full frame portrait shots. This lens creates some of the most stunning low light shots too, with the power of its low aperture and its amazing colour reproduction. Plus, the images are sharp wide open. Anyone who has used this lens knows how unrealistically small it is. This fits in the hand of a baby. For a lens to be this amazing, at this size, and for this price, the lens deserves all the praise it gets.

This is the best lens Olympus has released for the micro four-thirds camera system IMHO. PROS: The AF is super fast on my e-p3. The colors are amazing and the image is sharp. Baby and kid portraits are fantastic and simpler with the speed of this lens. Low light is impressive and accurate. I love the lens 90% of the time (see below). CONS: For everyday use, I find the 90mm equivalence of the lens to be too close at times. Ideally, I wish this was 35mm instead of 45mm. Mounting the lens is tight and stiff, compared to the 14-42 kit lens and 20mm Panasonic I have. That problems aside, I love this lens. The cost is dead on and deserves a full 5 stars for the cost.

  • great lens

It is difficult to find a negative review on this lens and this on will be no different. The lens is small, about two inches in length and quite light. It is made of silver coloured plastic and is attractive and appears quite solid. It mounts snugly to my m43 bodies and the manual focus ring operates smoothly. The lens is sharp, centre and corners, with a little corner softening at f1.8, but sharp corner to corner from there to about f9.0 where diffraction begins. I do not hesitate to use it up to f 16. Corner darkening is not a problem nor is fringing. It has very good, but not great background blurring. Now the reason for 4 stars instead of five. The front element is unprotected from side light and this creates flare. The lens needs a lens hood and with one, gives flare-free, contrasty, sharp images. Hood should be included with the lens rather than a $40 option. To sum up--- a great lens at a very reasonable price. Purchased mine at Henrys.
