The RITE Choice For Professional Looking Images
January 27, 2012
Intent on setting up a professional studio, I knew that correct color calibration was important.
After much research, I narrowed down my choices to the XRITE i1 Display Pro and the Datacolor Spyder 3 Elite, as a PROFESSIONAL level solution.
As a perfectionist, the The XRITE i1 Display Pro swung the deal for me due to the glowing reports regarding the advance color calibration technology. I also wanted to compliment my XRITE Color Checker Passport.
Set up was relatively straightforward; the box came with software CD (updates are available via the manufacturer website); a basic instruction guide, (although walk through-on screen instructions are given); and the USB plug and play device.
Set up is very comprehensive for beginners and the more advanced. You can select basic mode (where the software guides you after selecting prompted options, inc screen type and basic color related preferences); or advanced mode for the rocket scientists who want to fine tune technicalities. I opted for the basic set up mode, although I did mess up the first installation, as I missed an option on screen which was hidden, as the page was fixed and warranted scrolling; I also selected the wrong screen type for my laptop, although it was easy enough to resolve / recalibrate and very intuitive.
After 2 minutes of the device scanning on-screen colors, the profile was saved for future use...whilst the difference took some getting used to, I was very happy, compared to my previously blown out / over saturated set up using the Operating Systems color calibrator utility...I highly recommend this device.
I give 4 stars as the instruction guide could have better explained options...
