  • Sony HXRNX70U

This is an amazing little camera. After years of using full-sized cameras, this was a great surprise. It is great in low light, focus is sharp and picture quality at HD 60P is unbelievable. I had a bit of a workflow issue as Final Cut Pro is not compatible with Sony files but solved that problem with Clip Wrap.

  • Video looks good but some serious flaws

Bought one of these cameras last fall to replace my Canon GL2.

The image quality coming out of the NX70 is amazing, however there are some issues with this unit. Specifically the zoom control. There is no way to do a smooth zoom with the unit unless you use the camera's remote control. Sony has issued a firmware fix which allows fast or slow zooms. But how Sony released this camera with such a terrible zoom rocker is ridiculous.

Other thing that drives me crazy is there is no indication in the viewfinder or on the LCD of how long you have been recording a scene. Hit record and count in your head, because this camera doesn't post you recording times.

The night vision only works if you detach the matte cover, therefore exposing that expensive Sony lens to anything you might bump into shooting in the dark.

Otherwise this is a good camera. The video coming out of it is great. Ergonomically it is decent.

But, if I had to do it over again I might have gone with a Canon once again.
