A Few Tweaks Away From a Great Bag

I bought this bag because I have one of the Lowepro backpacks and have been very happy with it, but I wanted something that was better for a short trip or riding on a subway when I'm traveling. It certainly offers me that, and the bag is the quality I would expect from Lowepro. My backpack is so well designed, though, that I'm a bit disappointed not to see the same functionality in this sling.
The point of getting this bag was to have something smaller, but it's just a bit too small. My biggest lens is Nikon's 18-105 kit lens, and with that on, it's a tight fit to get my camera into the bag. The depth isn't necessarily the issue, but the zipper seems to strain around the width of my camera body. I think if the bag were just a bit deeper or wider, things would fit much better. Aside from that, I seem to have lots of space for all of my accessories and personal items, and removing or adding these seems to have no impact upon the zipper issue when my camera is in the bag. A few more compartments within the bag might be nice as the exterior pockets aren't very secure, but otherwise it's set up nicely.
The bag travels really well as everything can be collapsed. This is a bonus as I prefer to use more sturdier backpack on the plane, so I can back this in my checked luggage and have it when I arrive at my destination.
The shoulder strap can be a bit uncomfortable. I use the Black Rapids strap and found I had too much weight sitting on one shoulder. If I put the bag on one shoulder and my camera on the other, this distributes the weight more comfortably, but I find that the pad they have on the strap doesn't seem to want to stay in place for me. Even with very little weight I find this bag much less comfortable than the backpack, but I like that it enables me to have my bag in front of me where it's easier to watch and access.
I think a slightly wider or deeper bag, compartments, and a better strap would make this bag perfect. As it is, it's good, though I'm not sure I'd pay this much for it again.
