Thanks to my mom and her generous monetary gift, I decided to spoil myself and purchase this lens. I love to photograph wildlife so this lens would make a great addition to my gear. I love that I can use my 2X extender and it did not interfere with the auto focus. This lens produces extremely sharp images. It has a third stabilization mode which is great for tracking action. There are only two downsides to this lens. First it is a heavier lens, so most shots should be taken using a tripod, and so secondly my next purchase had to be a new tripod head. It is unfortunate that Canon does not supply a lens cap for this lens. The "lens cap" that comes with it fits on the hood, so you must leave the hood on reversed so that your lens is protected in your bag. I did find a rubber cap made by AquaTech that fits very nicely, so I do not have to leave the hood attached. It is a pricey lens, but you get what you pay for, so if you can, go ahead and spoil yourself. I am truly happy with this purchase and do recommend it highly. As a bonus my first shot with this lens was of a Bald Eagle.
