24p & 30p Frame Modes:
24p Cinema Mode enables all aspiring moviemakers to achieve a professional "film-look." You can change the camcorder's frame capture rate to 24p (recorded at 60i), which provides the appearance of the same frame rate as movie film. Awesome! Great BUY! Excellent Video Quality!

This camcorder will not disappoint you. This camcorder is perfect for anyone from the pro who knows all the settings to the mother-in-law who barely knows how to turn it on. I bought this camcorder about two weeks ago and it has not disappointed me yet. The video quality is incredible. The colors are crisp, bright and clear. One major major positive detail to this camcorder is the low light video recording. The low light recording is insane on how clear the footage is. No grain in the footage. RED colors are usually hard to reproduce in low light, but not with this camcorder. I bought this camcorder to replace two defective Panasonic units that I had. I had bought the TM700, which went bad and was replaced by Panasonic with the TM900, which also went bad. One of the primary reasons I got these Panasonics was due to the low light capabilities. I can tell you right now, that although the Panasonic units are rated one of the best around. This Canon HFM-400 in the low light capabilities BLOWS AWAY the TM700 and TM900. I took this Canon right out of the box and recorded with the AUTO setting in low light. The footage blew away the Panasonics. So if you are looking for a camcorder to record those low light birthday blowing candle footages, this is the one to get. It has a lot a features. Another huge positive to the camcorder is the "Optical Stabilization". There are two types of stabilization that this unit has. One of them is a Optical Dynamic Stabilization that is ON all the time.. which is awesome. I have gone up and down stairs, moved the camera around and you can not see any shake or blurred recordings. Even when you are zooming in, the zoom stays steady and stable. The 2nd Stabilization is a POWERED Image Stabilization. This 2nd one is awesome if you plan to really zoom in on far away objects. There is a button that you press to engage the Powered Image Stabilization. This works awesome.. and in my opinion BETTER then the Panasonic TM700 and TM900 (which Panasonic claims they are the best at). In the MENU screens, there are several options to choose from for different video effects such as Sports mode for fast moving action, Portrait mode.. you name it is is there. Another small positive detail that this has is a ZOOM speed controller. If you leave it in the default setting it works like all other zooms.. you push the zoom leaver a little bit and it zooms in slowly, but if you push the zoom leaver all the way over it will zoom in fast. The camcorder has three other settings. You can set it to three different zoom speeds where it doesn't matter if you push the leaver a little bit or all the way over... it will only zoom in at the speed that you selected. This is a great function for those people who tend to always push the zoom leaver all the way.. which sometimes results in fast, not centered, out of focus footage. Again this unit is fantastic. There are many many option in MENU that could dive into.. but this would take too long to explain. Please keep in mind that this is a SD memory camcorder. So you will have to invest in a good SD card. Pleas note that a 32gig SD card will give you about 3 hours of HD recording time on the highest setting. A spare battery would be a good idea as well.. as the one that comes with the camcorder will only give you about 60 minutes of recording time... and the bigger one. You will notice that the battery compartment is very very large.. when you install the battery that comes with the camcorder, it only fills in about half of the battery space. Canon were brilliant in their design of the battery compartment... because if you do decide to get the bigger longer life battery.. it will fit perfectly in the battery compartment.. it will not stick out of the back like some of their competitors. Again a small detail.. but a good. Bottom line, I would highly recommend this HFM-400 Camcorder. You will not regret the purchase.
