  • Perfect for high resolution macros and a great portrait lens as well

When I was looking for a lens for portraiture with more compression than the 80/2.8, I looked at both the 120mm and the 150mm. While I would get more magnification with the 150mm, the 120mm also brought macro to the table so I made that choice. Man am I happy. Like all great macros, this lens is absolutely tack sharp. It's focus field is even across the sensor plane and light falloff towards the edges in minimized. Despite the wide focus range it still focuses very rapidly and in addition to being great for closeup work, it also makes a wonderful portrait lens. It's the default lens on my H4D-40 and delivers a 35mm full frame equivalent field of view of about 98mm after considering the 1.3x crop factor of the H4D-40. I've also used the lens with Hasselblad's automatic extension tubes (macro in medium format is AWESOME) and also with Hasselblad's 1.7 teleconverter. It's a great lens and if I were starting fresh, I would have skipped the excellent 80/2.8 and gone directly to this.
