I purchased the mark II version of this, used from Henry's, a month or so ago. I am using it with a Canon 70-200 f2.8L mark I and a Canon 6D. I was super impressed with the autofocus speed and image quality that I was able to get out of this combo. If you are looking for a little extra reach but don't want to fork out the big bucks for a 300mm L series lens, this is the way to go. I've been using it for sports and wildlife and I couldn't be happier. My only regret is that I din't buy it sooner. I assume that this version could only be better.

Report As Inappropriate
Often maligned because of the preponderance of junk, tele-converters get a bad rap.
In the case of either of the III generation of Canon converters, this rap is undeserved. I love my 2x converter and use it often, even when it removes enough light to make the autofocus shutdown. I added the 1.4x to reduce the light loss and still gain some magnification and I love it!
There is less light falloff in the corners than with the 2x (although that one is stunningly good), and while the magnification is less, so is the bulk. If you've spent good money on a top grade telephoto or telephoto zoom, you owe it to yourself to increase the versatility by adding a tele converter and this is a great one!
I picked up the extender about 2 weeks ago and really like it. It's quick and it doesn't add a lot of bulk to my 70-200 which was important to me. I wish I'd have gotten it sooner! I've been using it for birds in flight for the most part and highly recommend it.
