  • Great overlooked lens

In this zoom range there are many lenses to compare and it wasn't an easy decision. For me it came down to this lens or the 70-200 f/4 L IS USM and after trying both in the store I went with the 70-300 . I was moving up from the non-L 70-300 so was comfortable with this range and I don't feel I miss the 2/3rds stop @ 200mm. I don't own a 1.4x tele-converter and wouldn't find that convenient on the 70-200 plus it then becomes an f/5.6 throughout the entire 98-280mm range. The 70-300 is shorter so packs nicely attached to my camera and feels very well balanced on my 40D and 5D2. The IS works extremely well for hand-held shooting and the IQ is true "L" quality even wide open. Everyone will have their own preferences and may like the internal zoom of the 70-200 , I don't find it an issue to have the barrel extend. I did consider the 100-400 L but wasn't a fan of the push-pull style zoom and found the IS was not quite as good on that model. The build quality of this lens is outstanding, very smooth zoom and focus control rings and generally a solid feel. I have no regrets in buying this lens and would recommend anyone looking for a zoom in this range take a look and consider the 70-300mm f/4-5.6 L IS USM lens.

  • Excellent Lens

I have had this lens for about a week and I would like to say that this is an excellent lens. The focus is quick, image is sharp, and color rendering is very good. No any problem so far. I am very happy with both IQ and build quality. I also have a none "L" version of this lens and I am very happy to my decision of the upgrade, no regrets. Also, the staff at Henry's in Nepean & Kanata locations is very nice and has strong technical knowledge. I made my purchase at Nepean location simply because it is closer to my home. I like both stores very much and always go there for my photo stuff when the price is right to my budget.
