  • Excellent IQ and coverage for the money

  • April 27, 2012

This is practically the only zoom I use now. The kit 18-55 has been rendered useless, and I've sold all other zooms I had (both AF and manual). There are much better zooms in the DA* line, but for the price, nothing can come remotely close to what you get with this. Excellent IQ and range. Serves very well as a start-up portrait lens on the short end, and great at getting close for wildlife and nature shots on the long end. The only reason why I docked it a star rating is for a few downsides. It is a bit slow (f/4-5.8), especially for indoor shots. AF does hunt sometimes. And the minimum focusing distance, at 140cm, is not the greatest. Other than that, it deserves a worthy spot in my everyday gear bag (it's quite light, too).
