Almost the same optics as the FA 35... this lens will blow you away. If you are used to a zoom, the image quality is amazing. If you are used to thinking you can't get quality in a budget lens.. think again. This lens quite simply tests as equal or better than some of the best lenses Pentax has ever made, and it's priced under $200. For this kind of quality you'd expect to pay $500 to $600. If there was ever a no brainer for a purchase this would be it. I was waiting to buy the 35 macro 2.8, this is a third the price and faster. At this focal length, it's the same on APS-c Pentax cameras as a standard 50mm lens on a 35 mm camera. It's one of those lenses, you can just leave on the camera. Even if you take other lenses, start with this one. A lot of the time you own't take it off the camera.

Plastic Fantastic. They call it that for a reason. It's quite possibly the best value Pentax lens for your money, at time of review. It is sharp even from f/2.4, with very nice bokeh. Fairly fast auto focus. It's a good focal length for medium portraits or group shots, but a bit too wide for close up portraits. It's basically my go-to lens for any indoor events. The only "down side" to it is the plastic build. But that's what keeps the price fairly low, as well as makes the lens ultra light, so I won't dock a star rating because of that. Overall, a very worthwhile purchase. There's a reason this is always sold out, so if you see it available, snap it up fast.
