This is my first hand strap. I got it as a bonus when I purchased the Cotton Carrier-Lite. It is a good quality hand strap and the material is comfortable. Do I need one if it didn't come with the Cotton Carrier-Lite? It depends, if I use a holster (like the one from Cotton Carrier) alone without any camera tether, then my answer is absolutely YES. The reason is a hand strap is the only type of strap that makes sense to me to use together with a holster. It is the must have insurance for my camera. However, if I do not use a holster or I have other mean of securing the camera, switching to a hand strap is not my preference. I can simply wrap a regular camera strap around my wrist and get the same effect and even more secure. What I found was giving too much room for my thumb to access the buttons makes the hand strap too loose. Adjusting the strap too tight makes it difficult to access the buttons. Since I bought the Cotton Carrier system and for sure will use the holster, I switched from regular camera strap to the hand strap. I don't see myself switching the camera strap back and forth all the time and I doubt anyone would.

Like the previous reviewer, I as well received this hand strap as a bonus with the Cotton Carrier Lite. Though the build and material quality is fine I find the whole strap in general is not very comfortable. There is very little padding on the strap itself and there isn't a whole lot of adjustment room if your camera has a grip installed on it. I bought a cheap knock off version of another hand strap off ebay for a third of the cost and it is much more comfortable than this unit.
