best 70-300 for nikon dslr
December 25, 2011
I have this lens for 1 year and a half. I have a d3000 and vc of this lens is amazing - at 300mm, my slowest record of shutter speed is 1/20 second. I use this lens mostly for wildlife - that means I use the tele end all the time and my aperture usually is f8. The vc function for this lens allow me to use a shutter speed that way below the safe shutter speed(safe shutter speed for this lens when use on a aps-c camera is about 480 to 500th of a second and above).
The d3000 does not allow you to use shutter speed faster than 1/200s when the flash is being use(even when you use external flash), the vc of this lens helps me a lot when I use it to shoot butterflies with flash.
Okay, this lens is not perfect. The min focus distance is 1.5m. If you plan on shooting things like small spider, bees or dragonfly's head, you may have to get a extension ring to have closer focusing ability. This lens is not weather protected, be careful when you use it on bad weather condition. Focusing speed is not as fast as the pro grade lens like the nikon 70-200 or the canon 70-200, 70-300l - again, this lens is "only" around 500, which is 1/5 of the price of the pro grade lens that have the same range. For 500, this lens can produce result that very, very close to the pro grade lens that cost a lot more
