I have been browsing though camera lenses that would suit well with my Canon 70D.
I have considered purchasing the full frame 24-70mm 2.8 by Canon and Tamron, but instead I decided to go with the Sigma 17-50mm 2.8 EX DC OS seeing that it's better suited with my asp-c camera.
I love this lens, it feels well built, it's constant 2.8 aperture from 17mm-50mm and optical stabilization for shooting in low light scenario's is awesome. It produces sharp photos...At 2.8 I could notice it looking soft on the edges while looking closely in photoshop but I don't mind that at all. (The softness around the edges fades away at a lower aperture)
At 17mm, it gives a wide enough field of view, not as wide as the Sigma 10-20mm obviously, but it works very well. I plan to use this as my everyday, walk around lens! It looks great on my 70D and I've seen in other reviews people were not impressed with its lens hood. The problem being, it isn't secured and can be loose...Well, I can tell you the copy I got doesn't have that problem. I can attach the hood and feel it secure itself with a snug fit. As for video's, the sound of the auto focus is slightly noticeable but not every lens is perfect. It really depends on how you choose to work around the problem that would best suit your needs. That being said, I would recommend this lens for anyone considering on purchasing it. Great lens and a more suitable replacement for the standard kit lens.
