Super sharp even at F 1.4, the wide open image quality would be able to compete with canon 24-70 IS at f4. It gets crazy sharp at F2.8. Bokeh is beautiful and creamy at F1.4, would recommend a ND filter to fully use this wide aperture - 77mm applies to 24-70mm and 16-35mm f4 lens also. Works very well on a crop sensor also (T5i).

  • Ideal lens for low-light interior photography

  • February 28, 2012
  • By: Doug

After being disappointed in the performance of the kit lenses bundled with my Canon 40D I decided to buy this lens (Canon EF 24mm F1.4L II USM). What a difference. This lens is very well suited for low-light interior photography as it's fast and has a nice and wide FOV. No lens will be able to completely negate the effects of poor lighting conditions, but this lens does a very good job of pushing the limits out. I don't recommend pushing the lens hard to it's limits (in either aperture or focal distances as it starts to suffer from noticeable vignetting (at wide aperture settings) and perspective distortion (at close focal distances). I keep this lens on my 40D almost all the time now. Consider it an investment. ;)
