  • Better Value for the $

  • April 29, 2012
  • By: Steve

I purchased my D90 at the start of 2011. After months and months of deciding on wether or not I wanted to buy a mid entry level camera like the d5100, or invest a little more $ into a pro-sumer camera like the D90... I landed on the D90. And am I ever glad I did, Although the price point between most entry level cameras like the (D3200, D5100, and D90) are not that much, you get a wider range of growth and options with the D90 over lesser models. The controls and buttons are very easy to use and can be controled with one hand while you are still looking through the viewfinder. The backlit (top mounted) LCD display is a huge plus over lesser models when it comes to quickly seeing all of your controlable features like aperature, shutter speed, flash etc. (which are also viewable through the viewfinder) When buying a larger ticket item such as a digital SLR, you want to not just think about what you want to shoot this week/month/ or year... you need to foreshadow into the future and think if the camera body you are about to buy will fiil all of your needs for the years to come. Sure you may save a hundred or two now if you get a lesser modeled body, BUT spending say 650 today, then having to spend 850 in a year for a better body (because you outgrew your first body) will actually cost you $1500 instead of just chipping in the couple hundred extra now. - This is what I considered when buying the D90, and I have never regretted it for a second! One Amazing feature that not alot of people know about the D90 (vs the D 3000,3100,5000,5100) is the the D90 has a focus motor inside the body... Which allows you to use and buy manual focus lenses and have a full auto focus lens for a fraction of the price of a nikon lens that has the HSM focusing motor inside of the lens body. -Yet another reason why the D90's investment today will save you more $ in the future. The 18-55 D90 kit also offers a very versitile lens/body combo that is also very affordable. If you do have the extra $ to spend, also consider the 18-105 or 18-200 kit -Steve

  • Nikon over Canon Hands Down!

  • April 19, 2010
  • By: Reilly

After many years of using Nikon products I decided to try Canon. What a disapointment! I purchased the Canon T1i and in less than a year returned it for the Nikon D90. The D90 is superior in every way to the Canon T1i. From colour reproduction, auto focus, build quality, software and versatility. The new lens such as the 18-55 VR have obvious quality and clarity that Canon could only dream of in that price range. I will stick to Nikon products in the future. A lesson well learned!
