  • Same quality as D300/D700

Though more expensive than third party grips, this one is a MAGNESIUM frame, and has the weather sealing. The grip material is the same as the bodies as well, meaning it is not slippery in any way. The D300s really doesn't need it for frame rate, it only increases from 7 to 8 FPS. The D700 really improves at 8 vs 5 FPS. Note that the added frame rate ONLY occurs with either AA rechargeables, or the EN-EL4 battery setup. The ergonomics are excellent on both the D300 and D700. Great product overall.

  • Great grip for the D300!

This was an awesome addition to my D300!

From an ergonomic viewpoint, this battery grip actually IMPROVES the ergonomics of the D300. This grip is not just a battery holder, but it extends the functionality of the D300 in portrait orientation because of the extra shutter button, two command dials and AF-ON button.

Couple of things to note:

- this grip will work even with only one EN-EL3 battery in the camera body - great if you want to shoot in the portrait orientation comfortably without the added weight of batteries in the grip

- NiMH AA's will work in the grip and will get you 8fps

- The BL-3 chamber door needs to be bought seperately to use the EN-EL4 batteries - and it's pretty pricey at about $40

- Some shooters will note that the vertical button is a touch more sensitive than the camera's button, but you get used to this very quickly...especially if you're a shooter who "rolls" their finger on the shutter button instead of a "jabber"

I feel much more comfortable shooting portraits with this grip than without - when I look at my photo database before and after the grip, I clearly shoot far more portrait orientation photos with the grip than before.
