The canon 50mm 1.8 ll is a fantastic lens, i've used it for timlapses, video and night photography. It is a great lens to get a nice shallow depth of field. It has An auto-focus feature which is pretty good. Sadly it is plastic construction, But for $139.99 it is what you'd expect from this lens. This lens is great for portraits and takes nice sharp images. I have a Canon rebel T1I and it performs great. Its a nice and compact lens, so it would be ideal for travel or if you want a lighter setup. Overall I think it is a fantastic lens in a nice small pocket and recommend anyone looking for a prime lens. Favourite lens I have by far.

this is the smallest and lightest lens in the canon lineup. however that does not mean it is not a heavyweight performer. super fast 1.8 lens, gives amazing bokeh when wide open. The 50mm prime glass makes it tack sharp edge to edge. This lens is a marvel, and a great addition to any photographers kit, no matter the skill level. Studio or location this is a solid performer. great for video as well, super sharp and easy to manual focus if desired, while the AF is super fast. highly recommended, you will not be disappointed.

I was unable to believe that Canon sold this lens for such a price... Image quality of this lens is great. I am so happy; lately I am having just this lens on my Canon T3i. Have taken some amazing shots...Love the DOF for portraits
I purchased this lens last month from the Henry's in Halifax, it is amazing. I have been doing a lot of product photos with my Sigma 70-300 with macro. But the 50mm is amazing for taking photos of watches for my works website and newspaper ads. This lens is on my camera 70% of the time now that I have it!
This is the lens that I keep on my 7D pretty well all the time for my walk around lens. It is sharp, fast and makes you think about composition because you have to be the zoom! It is a great lens for the price. Highly recommended!
This lens is cheap, but it does one thing really well: It takes quality images. A must have, and probably my favorite lens. It's good in low light, can capture action, and it's sharp. The only thing I don't like about this lens it the manual focus ring.
You definitely get what you pay for. That's not to say this lens is bad. It actually produces excellent images when your focus is bang on and you have lots of light. The problem is that people tend to buy this for situations where they *don't* have lots of light. In this scenario, the autofocus tends to have difficulty locking on to your subject (this is improved if you have an external flash unit that can perform autofocus assist). Furthermore, this lens is typically used with small f-stops where the depth of field is very small -- which can make it difficult to get a perfectly focused image. If you can spare the money, get the 50mm f/1.4, which has a better quality build.

At the price, this lens is a no brainer to include in your camera bag. The AF isn't perfect, but allow you to take shots in dim light where other lens won't allow you too. An EXCELLENT choice to experiment with DOF (Debth Of Field), the creamy background effect often used for portrait shots.

I bought this lens a while ago and was surprised how good it was for the price. I'm not saying it's the best but it's great for the price. When you get to 1.8 the focus isn't very good because of the shallow depth of field but it's still a great lens for the price.
